No kidding. That's why I said competent. Adequate. Not a major liability

So what value does he bring to the table exactly?

The lack of a run game is the one that bothers me the most

What bothers me most is that we could probably have a better run game but the coaches are literally stripping money from our OL and our RB by making them look worse than they are instead of doing the opposite. They keep sending them out there on the field to run the SAME run play every time they call a run.
I mean I know of some HIGH SCHOOL defenses that could stop LSU when they know exactly what you’re going to do.

It’s unacceptable given how much they get paid.

Special teams weren't horrible. We missed a 48 and 49 yd field goal, those aren't gimmes. We had our first real special teams miscue of the year with a miss fired long snap in one of the loudest stadiums on earth, it sucks but shite like that happens.

Defense wasn't horrible, in fact it was so dominant that it forced a top 15 team in the country to put a running back at QB and play an offensive style they've never played in the 3rd quarter of a game. We had zero film on that offense. Add in the fact that Nussmeier kept giving them the ball in our own red zone, our defense never had a chance to figure out how to stop it until several plays later, which ended up being multiple touchdowns from short yardage.

The run game isn't great, but we have played 3 of the 5 best defensive lines in college football (USCe, Ole Miss, aTm), and 2 more very good defensive lines in Arkansas and UCLA. It's hard to run against elite lines. We have a serviceable run game, but that's about it.

This game was lost from missed field goals and short field turnovers.

Not even 2019 was perfect. The defense was a concern for a lot of the year.

Well, it wasn’t perfect, but that team had a great defense - ALL YEAR. The 2019 defense did whatever it had to do to win. When the offense was scoring at will against Ole Miss, the defense lost intensity. When we got a 20 point halftime lead on Bama the defense (mainly Stingly) lost intensity.

When the pollsters showed they were going to drop us out of the #1 seed the defense stood up and bitched-slapped A&M, Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma and Clemson. It was always there, and it was obvious. I never had the least concern about that defense once I realized the corners could play (Stingly, Flott and Ward - I already knew Fulton could)

Newsflash for everyone: No football team is perfect. I can name weaknesses for all the top 10 teams right now. Not even 2019 was perfect. The defense was a concern for a lot of the year. 2011 was the best team in the country the whole year and had flaws.

This is not news.

But eliminating glaring weaknesses is the coach’s job.

Being LSU the only big game in SEC is Bama and GA...that may rank higher.... before TX/OK were added.
Now Texas. So beating Ole MS is normally expected if the program didnt tank after 2019.
So one big win so far. Agree BK is better than O but these clunker losses UT, 2 to Tx Am, 3 season openers just make you wonder how connected is he to the team vs just playing CEO?

The crazy part was O was dog walking almost every ranked team early not named Bama.

Bama accounted for almost all his ranked losses at one point

we were in track meets with Texas and Alabama, and Ole Mis.

They didn’t buckle down until the A&M game

The run game has been sub par all 3 years under Kelly, we just had Daniels to mask it. We would have been just as fricked with a pocket QB in 22 and 23.

I want to support an SPC guy but Josh Williams is meh and we've had to deal with him for what feels like a decade.

The non-QB run game has been arse for years

So we should expect to play in at least two national championship games and win 77% of our games?

Coach les Miles would have won this game , he wouldnt let that second QB beat us ! He put together our last great team 2019 the rant assured us that all LSU needed was any new coach because LA had the players !

The best football team in NCAAt history ?

The defense was a concern only because Delpit and a couple other players were injured. Once they healed we were awesome.

Are you implying that Kelly will have to improve a lot to match Miles' as a Head Coach?
I didn't like Miles but you may be correct.
