He says it would take 13 mil to buy out Miles and that with the shortages in higher education it would be hard to explain a 13 million dollar overage in the budget. He was hoping Miles would win so that they would not have to buyout Miles.

It sounds like Miles could win 7 or 8 and keep his job. Maybe firing some assistants.

Doesn't the TAF pay Miles' contract, or the majority of it anyway?

Hard to put a positive spin on $13 mil. to buy out the coach after all sorts of cutbacks and layoffs. It is what it is.

It's hard to believe that a 7 win season would see him keep the job.

Won't happen anyway. There is no way we go 3-6 down the stretch.

does he still have like 5 years left on his contract? 13 million is a pretty steep buyout

4-5 is entirely possible though.

He makes 3.8 a year, 13/3.8 = 3.4 so I'm not sure where the OP's source got the number from.
Also, the university only pays $300,000 a year in Miles's salary, rest from TAF and radio/TV money. So LSU itself would not pony up $13 million, probably $1 million at the most.

Miles isn't going anywhere, and that might be a good thing because we retain Chavis. GC has got to go!

But the 13 million would not be taken away from the school budget. By your reasoning, it should be hard to put a positive spin on paying him a $4 million salary after all the cutbacks and layoffs.

McNeese. ULM. Maybe Ole Miss or Tennessee?

Point out the other sure wins left for us to play.

His contract runs through 2012 last I checked. He didn't get it rolled over the past 2 years was my understanding, but for sure it wasn't after 08.

That means after this season his buyout is either $7.502 million or $11.253 million (if it was rolled-over last season). That means your "contact" is full of shite as LSU would not fire Miles before the season is over or at least not let him coach out the season.

In 2007 Miles basically signed a 7 year deal. 2 years have past with this being the 3rd. That leaves 4 years on the deal. 3.8x4= $15.2M that is Miles buyout. A year can be rolled over at the digression of AD and several other high profile members in the LSU system. It has not in the past two years. Max buyout is $18M. I honestly feel because of these numbers LSU will NOT fire Miles till at least the end of next season. When the buyout will be $11.4M. Also buyout is paid out over 10 years and if Miles where to find other employment it would be less what he gets paid at that job.(John Brady)

I am guessing some Haynesville Shale money would cover his buyout. There are enough people up here that are ready to see him go.

I am not one of em for what it is worth.

People throwing those kind of numbers around are ones not willing or ready to face the facts.

It's easier just to say to the average person, "It can't be done."

It's doable.

Miles could lose Florida, Auburn, and Arkansas, if he somehow wins Alabama, and keep his job with 3 losses.

Other than that, 4 losses will have your Club member singing a new tune.
