Been there my friend. I similarly reprioritized ‘now’ as opposed to planning for a day that might never come. You and your wife will be in our prayers. Cancer is absolutely horrible.

Slippy, fight the good fight. Your wife's faith has made her well.
This world is corrosive (so is Bourbon). Her faith will never die.

I admire your fortitude, as well as hers. Through Christ, all is possible, even in the most trying time of your entire life. The Lord will carry you through.

There’s an old saying: “You can have 99 problems until you have a health problem, then you have one problem.”

I wish the best for you and your wife.

Just wondering if any of you have been through this.

Yes. Going through this right now with Mama BFIV. Multiple myeloma and thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer is treatable and curable with surgery. No cure for the multiple myeloma. Her faith keeps her going. Prayers sent your way.

Yes. My wife died 10 years ago of breast cancer that inexplicably spread to her liver and lungs in less than 8 months, the time of her last mammogram, which showed nothing. In 16 months she was gone. Make sure will is intact, insurance and hospitalization is up to date with passwords available. Have your wife give you power of attorney. Do not make a major decision until at least a year goes by after the passing. Life sucks sometimes, but make a plan, prepare for the worst, and be strong as hell!

Yup. With my folks. You make decisions that you think are right and can live with later in life...money and fun doesn't matter. Being good does. It comes back

I pray with my girls and St. Jude before mass every Sunday. We’ll be sending prayers up.

Sorry to hear.

Everything I thought I wanted to accomplish in the back half of my life, all the places I wanted to visit, all the money I hoped to sock away before retirement…. None of that means anything to me anymore.

So many similar stories during my career - all that $$$ saved and sickness or something catastrophic occurs just before (or soon after) retirement.

Enjoy your time folks - God Bless to your wife and hope things get better for her.

I can vouch for this….from a different perspective. I was the one who had the health crisis.my family rushed to my aid, some of them from one hell of a long ways away. They slept in hospital waiting rooms for a week while I was in ICU. They stayed with me in my home for 6 weeks after as I healed and regained enough function to live life normally.

After that, I will do anything that is necessary when they need me.

My dad just diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. At 84, he had never seen the inside of a hospital until three months ago. It's painful to watch him struggle. He went from playing golf six days a week to not being able to leave the house due to the pain. The treatments he's taking have shrunk the tumor in his kidney from 7.5 centimeters down to 5.5cm, but the lesions in his spine haven't changed. Hoping the treatment starts working on those. He has gone from 185lbs down to 145lbs in the span of four months. Cancer sucks!

That's what I have, and really rare for my age. Although there is no cure yet, it is slow growing and treatable.

I hope she's in good health otherwise. My grandfather was and when he was diagnosed at around 70 years old 20+ years ago, he lived until 85.
