A loved one’s serious illness can make you reorder your priorities in a hurry.

My wife has stage 4 cancer. She is an absolute marvel in her ability just to stay the course and grind her way through it. Her faith is what keeps her centered. But it is hard on both of us.
Everything I thought I wanted to accomplish in the back half of my life, all the places I wanted to visit, all the money I hoped to sock away before retirement…. None of that means anything to me anymore. If I have to stop working to take care of her, I will. If I have to sell everything to take care of her, I will. If we lose this fight, God forbid, I will figure it out as I go.
Just wondering if any of you have been through this.
And yes, I’m a couple bourbons in on a Friday.

I’m so sorry that your family is going through this
My mom has state 4 breast cancer, it is/was in her bones.
After the initial round of treatment there were no signs of cancer but she still has to take a chemo pill daily.
I pray your wife has similar results

May Godspeed her full and safe recovery.

As the patient and not the caregiver, this is my outlook as well. Besides dietary changes, I'm living life as normal as I can for as long as I can. We want to think about it as little as possible sometimes.

I’m sorry. My mom beat stage 4 cancer so never lose hope.
The bourbon won’t help. You might choose a better drug.

Seems like medicine has made great progress on Stage 4 cancers the last few years.

My Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer in January, and he's clean and done with treatment already. Hearing stage 4 isn't as scary in every case like it used to be. Healthcare isn't cheap in this country and insurance can be a pain, but there is nowhere else with the same rate of innovation at scale.

Yes. You know the old saying what doesn't kill you makes you stronger? It's bullshite. Sometimes it just breaks you. The universe is infinitely creative in the ways it can hurt you. But at least it will never hurt me quite like that again.

Goes to show how much of our limited time we dedicate to things that really don’t matter. Prayers sent and wishing your family, especially your wife, that all turns out well.

Distant family member was a Harvard doctor. Diagnosed and given little time. Lived another 30-40 years. He always said the mind is more powerful than you realize. He was convinced positive outlook was the difference.

Life can come at you fast. My brother-in-law was going to retire at the end of last year. Had a massive heart attack in early December. I can’t imagine what my sister and my niece and nephew are going through. Planning a future one day and then gone the next.
Prayers for you and your wife. Stay strong. All you can do is try to stay positive through all the ups and downs. And turn it over to the Lord. He is the one in control. Not us.

Yeah it really can change you ina hurry. My wife got BC and 39 years old and I was a wreck for a while with worry.
Just keep the faith and stay strong for her.
Last night I held my mom’s hand as she took her last breath and went to heaven. Nothing else in the world has mattered the past four days as I was with her.

Stage 4 has much better outcomes than 10 years ago. Keep positive.
