A cool time-lapse video flying from Mississippi to Hawaii yesterday

Flying from Mississippi to Hawaii yesterday it was mostly clear until we got about 300 miles out from the islands. Scattered clouds became a layer at 22k feet that we skimmed across the top of. Checking satellite imagery it turned out to be an extended band from Hurricane Nolo. After crossing through that there were just smaller puffy clouds that looked interesting as we landed as the sun was setting in Kauai.

Edit: in a Lockheed 130 that’s probably close to a 13 hour flight from Kessler to Lihue

A number of my LSU ROTC classmates and C-130 guys that I knew ended up in that squadron.
C-130 from Lihue to Moffett Field is long enough.

Flew from DFW to Albuquerque Tuesday. Flight time was almost 3 hrs instead of normal 1 hr 20 minutes. We had to fly around storms. Flew 960 miles. It’s 568 miles normal flight.

We live on a flat plane. Not a globe. You can almost see the firmament if you zero in on the top edge of the video.

I had never really thought about it, but it must seem weird when you are "driving" and your visual frame of reference is the tops of clouds. Like driving across a world made of cotton balls.
