If running a bar out of your basement sounds like a fun idea, you are unfortunately out of luck. Koch's dive is Maryland's last true "basement bar": an establishment that has more or less been killed off by modern zoning codes.
quote:
Irv Koch still bartends at his own established “Irvs Basement Bar” located in Maryland. During WWII, he served as Navy Seabee in the Philippines. While on the island of Samar, he fought against the Japanese and built fortifications and bases for U.S. service members. All are encouraged to visit his bar, hear his story and have him crack you open a beer!
quote:
The Washington Post yesterday profiled Irvin Koch, who, at the ripe old age of 103, is considered to be the world's oldest bartender.
The centenarian's establishment, Irv's Basement Bar, is quite literally in the basement beneath his home in Anne Arundel County, on the outskirts of Baltimore. The bar came with the house when Koch purchased the property in 1963. The cash bar proved lucrative enough that he's kept operating it ever since.

For 103 that old guy looks great. Could easily pass for 80.

A good American bartending to serve his fellow countrymen beer. Thank to him for his service!

Local officials will be there shortly to shut it down.

I’d love to sit there for a few hours enjoying drinks and listening to his stories. You know he’s got to have some damn good ones.

Seabees have been badass in every place they've been. if i were to redo my career in another branch, i would strongly consider the Seabees.

You can have a private bar/club if you want. Keep it cash. Invite friends only over. There are a few old crusty fellows in my neighborhood.

Fought and survived WW2, lived to be 103, and one day die by the hands of a gangsta thug wannabe in the street. We've seen stories like that on OT over years, unfortunately.

He's 103?!
Holy frick! He looks amazing! You'd think he were 80 just by looking at him.
