Agreed, there is also no such thing as ‘rebuilding’ in the day and age of NIL and you have as deep pockets as LSU. You get best available with the goal to win immediately.

The $40 million was to jump start the rebuild and get it further ahead. It’s an investment into the team.

Either you have a top 5 QB or you don’t. That’s the difference in being a NC contender or a #10-25 ranked team. And you really don’t know until they hit the field. Hell, Chambliss didn’t start for Ole Miss last year. You can spend $50 million but if you whiff on QB the whole thing doesn’t work.

Spending a lot of money is why every team wins the superbowl every year. They don’t need time together, just money. It’s plain to see.

I think I read OM has 53 new players on their roster this year. If so, that kind of ruins the theory of not meshing.

The best public estimate of what the Ole Miss program spent to assemble its 2026 football roster comes from The Athletic (Sept. 16, 2026): $39–45 million. That ranks 8th nationally and 4th in the SEC. The six year man Chambliss was the difference in this game.

Judging by the downvotes in your post, this site is either overran by LSU positivity bots (fake dislikes), or it’s full of real people that think of LSU as a high school team full of “just kids”.
Go ask Mets fans if they think it’s cool to spend at the top of MLB and have nothing to show for it.
Facts are LSU paid $54 mils to Brian Kelly to not coach. They spent another $40 mils on the roster. Then they gave Kiffin about $13 mil a year along with a gigantic coaching staff overall.
Presumably spending all that money to win games like last night. Ole Miss isn’t a top 5 team. Hell Florida is favored to beat them. There’s a reason LSU was favored last night.
When you spend that much, and you don’t improve. That’s a huge problem. This team isn’t any better than last season.
And it starts and ends with the Governor, I don’t blame Lane for taking the money. He’s the world’s luckiest nepo baby. But the rest of LSU admins look like morons for spending this amount to get this end product.
