Thanks for reminding me how old i am..... was in college and in the student section that night...... ...where have the years gone...

Getting old sucks, but better than the alternative.

HC of LSU wasn’t a 6 figure job until Saban

When we hired Saban he was only one of three coaches who made $1 million. And the other two had way more success than he had up until that point.

For 5 years before he got here LSU was a dumpster fire of a program. Dinardo absolutely brought back the program.

Dinardo’s downfall was Lou Tepper. The 1998 team was loaded and every game besides the last one against Arkansas was close. With a DC who was even the least bit competent that team would have competed for an SEC championship.

SEC records in 1st 3 seasons

Dinardo
1995: 4-3-1
1996: 6-2
1997: 6-2

Kelly
2022: 6-2
2023: 6-2
2024: 5-3

Wrong, Saban thought if a Cheerleader DiNardo can aggravate the sleeping giant. A Coach that lives, sleeps, and eats football. He thought not only aggravate but
WAKE the SLEEPING GIANT!

I think the Magic started a couple of weeks before, when LSU went into Kyle Field in College Station and gave #3 ranked Texas A&M all they wanted in route to an eventual 33-17 Tigers loss.

After all the Hallman years, to see a team come out and fight like that was a strong statement. As I recall we hung in there pretty good until the fourth quarter, when the heat and the A&M depth got the best of us.

It was hot as balls that day, and people were dropping like flies. You know it's hot when you can't even drink. Had to down straight Diet Coke all game, and never once had to pee. Everything just sweated out. I think it was like 120 degrees on the field. Unbearable.

But even then, everybody was pretty fired-up, because we knew we had a coach, and the core of a good team.

Cheerleader DiNardo

Dinardo showed what LSU was capable of and brought a lot of disenfranchised fans back to the program with his Bring back the Magic tour. And left a lot of talent for Saban. His undoing was LSU not retaining/paying assistant coaches. That was the big change LSU made with Saban, not getting money whipped by other programs.

DiNardo is not given enough credit for changing the culture at LSU. Without DiNardo laying the groundwork, you don't get a Saban.

And without Curley Hallman, we would not have gotten ourselves DiNardo.

I was there. Not my first game, but probably my first experience of Tiger Stadium at its best.

On that safety, didn't Nix say he thought he heard a whistle?

I was there in the NEZ. Was no longer a student, but still wanted to be as close to the student section as possible.

It was about my 15th game but 1st as a student. It was weird getting to know Troy Twillie a couple of years later (really outgoing and friendly guy).

Back then, we had to wait in a long line to get our student tickets for the year. They interviewed me on local news but got the name mixed up and called me Trey Coon. My roommate called me that for most of semester.

If only this had been posted by Nix to Twillie. Is this poster still around?
