That was such prime era of college football.
I would have liked Gundy to do a sendoff in his final Ok St football game press conference saying, "I'm a man, I'm 60."

Except there wasn't a Popeyes in Troy at the time. It was Crowe's Chicken, a local favorite. I remember driving down for that game. We left Birmingham early, got into some storms, and the game was delayed a bit at kickoff. We didn't miss much, but ended up getting to see us beat OSU. Then this story comes out later and it was just hilarious.

The Reid's made it sound like the coaching staff told all this stuff to the reporters just to set up this press conference rant.
It really sounds like Reid got beat out; you don't get to have a starting position by virtue of being the more senior guy.
It also sounds like he was used to being the best player on the field in HS and was so athletic he was nigh untouchable, then college talent brought him back to earth, literally and figuratively.

I vividly remember ESPN interviewing the mom after this and she took the rant as an insult to her and her son. The part that stuck out was her asking “If he’s doing everything right, why isn’t he playing?”
She just couldn’t get over the fact that her son wasn’t as good as the other qb
