This is a great case scenario for teams in the SEC….maybe even better than playing another juggernaut in the SEC Championship. Take the bye for championship week and get the home game against whomever.

Not saying it happens, but it’s the best case scenario.

People are gonna throw a fit when a two loss team gets a third loss in the SEC Championship and gets passed up by 2 SEC Teams who were 10-2 and sitting at home.

Or win the Championship and get a bye in the playoffs.

who is the loss against? Losing a second game in November is not ideal...

They beat OM and go 10-2 they will be in. OM will be essentially eliminated as it relates to LSU because they will have 2 losses, and don't have the schedule to overcome.

LSU needs to win the next two, OM and Arkansas.......to go to 6-1....then a split with A&M/Alabama, and beat Vandy, Florida, and the finale at home against Oklahoma.

The next two are critical.

I don't think 10-2 guarantees a 5th-8th seed. Imo, I think 5-7 will likely go to the loser of the B10, SEC, and ACC. I don't think the committee will reward a team sitting at home on championship weekend.

We won’t be playing it much longer . I strongly believe that it’s only a matter of time before they discontinue conference championship games because they’re useless with a 12-team playoff. All they can do is hurt good teams and stop them from making the playoff.

They should give automatic bids to SEC and Big 10 teams who make the championship game.

Unless it's Ohio State, USC, Texas, Michigan or Alabama.

Be positive!!! This team is gelling into a strong team. These DEFENSIVE coaches have these players balling..I can see LSU BEING 11-1 going to SEC championship. They finally have legit coaches on defense!! BO DAVIS IS THE BEST in the business !!! I am so glad LSU LURED him away from TAXAS!!! Geaux tigers!!!

They’re going to have to seed teams before the championship weekend or else those games aren’t going to survive due to this dynamic

Wouldn’t you think we would likely make the SECCG in that scenario considering we’re 7-1 in sec play?

Conference championship games aren't going anywhere as long as networks are interested in televising them. No way the SEC gives up the cash from the SECCG unless it's replaced with something even more lucrative like a 13th game for everyone.

I think that all teams in the conference should play that extra game. Let the top 2 play for the trophy, then let 3&4 play, 5&6 play etc.

The stakes will be higher for everyone and could create some interesting rematches. It also starts to level the playing field as far as playing an extra game is concerned.

I understand many will bitch about having to play the extra game while other conferences might take advantage of a bye week, but I also think that was a main argunent against the SEC making a championship game in the first place.

It’s a possible way for the conference to continue to dictate how the game can improve for the better and remain the dominant entity in the sport. There would SO MANY fun matchups that weekend and several that may not have yet happened throughout the season. Let the higher seed host. Could be hella fun. And would draw eyeballs from all over the county wishing their conference remained relevant that week. Just a saying.

ETA: it could also be a make or break resume builder for several teams to actually make the playoff over teams from other conferences.
