The rule is fair. If QBs want to be protected then they have to deal with the rule. They abused the slide rule that is why that was added.

What coach out there will have the intelligence to teach their QB to slide head first. Get more yardage and it’s safer.

They rarely look at that when the defender isn’t anywhere near but of course they would in this situation.

3 things:
1. I’m glad Sam slid, he needs to be better about protecting himself.
2. He was watching the marker, and slid after it.
3. The hip drop rule in instant replay is stupid af. Should be be aware? Sure. But it’s the same as half of the penalties. We are looking at “intent”

Disagree. The rule is there to prevent defenses from lighting up your qb. You can’t have it both ways. Either the slide ends with knee touching the ground and the defense can tee off or it ends with the hip drop and you can penalize defenses.

Yes, and it's why the rule isn't dumb like some people are calling it. It would be BS if QBs could fake slide but get free 15 yards if the defense hits you while sliding.
