Culture can’t be bought and it doesn’t come in a year. Not even the great Nick Saban could do that. In year two, Saban dropped games to teams with grossly inferior talent at LSU and Alabama.

The world doesn't work like this anymore. There will be 40 new players in 2027. 40 new players in 2028.

Sure, we don't have to buy out Kelly and his staff every year, but you will see some staff turnover as well.

Every year is a new year. There is no "build" a program, anymore. FFS that's why heaven and earth were moved to hire The Portal King(tm).

Expectation was 10-2 or 9-3. The big question for me coming into the season was on O line and LB depth and both have proven to be out glaring issues, aside from Baker continuing to call bad prevent defense. My hope was that Leavitt would be good enough to mask an O line issue and Whit would stay healthy.

I don't really follow recruiting anymore, but O line needs to be the first thing addressed, paying players like royal is a waste of money if you can't run at will or pass protect.

That was a different era of football. Players were recruited for 3 -4 years. Money was under the table. A key class could carry you 3 or 4 seasons.

2 to 3 years with developing HS and portal transfers.
He also needed to not have the SEC screwing him at ole Miss with the music until the snap and at UK on multiple occasions.
He needs the FBI to dig into Sankey and the head of officials.
Wait until basketball season.
They won do anything with Baseball bc LSU would then own the conference for the next 20 years.
Some of you need to face the reality that at every game in every sport LSU will be facing officiating challenges and the conference will want to find them to recoup the money that Tony Clayton is going to get out of it.

Sankey needs firing.
Bobbly Hill and his university president will pay as well.
Let 1 golf ball be thrown and Hill will not coach that game. He would be arrested for inciting violence.
LSU needs to convince the FBI to step in on game fixing. Cause the conference to go back 20 years and look for patterns then dig into email, text messages and voicemail by Slive, Sankey and both Head of officials.
That’s the only way the conference will be moved and retribution for the blatant fixing of college football will happen.
I do not gamble, but if I did I would be pushing hard for a federal investigation into the conference.
One could have a 3 hr documentary with no calls and calls that were incorrectly held or reversed.
One can’t use the “human element” when it has been this blatant.
They fixed the Auburn 2006 game to try to allow Alabama win the conference and then they didn’t win it. Tried to force e Newton out but that didn’t work.

A lot more goes into a head coaching gig than just players. He will have more time to develop depth, more time for the support staff to understand his systems, and more time to recruit and develop guys. LSU is a massive organization and to think someone can hit the ground running here after the position we were in with coaches like BK and Frank Wilson then is retarded

What was different about having more talent (way more) than UAB and Louisiana-Monroe, and yet losing to them? (Both were in Saban’s first year, BTW, I had that wrong).

I get that you can rebuild talent faster now, but culture is another matter. Saban could not rebuild the culture on his teams in his first year. In both cases - Bama and LSU - his teams, with grossly superior talent, lost to piss arse teams.

We are going to have to agree to disagree. There is no time. For any team. You build a roster that can win or you don't. Then the next year, you do it again.

Kids play and are successful or they leave. Or they play, are successful and leave for more money. There will be very little continuity from year to year.

Year 2 remains the expectation.

Year 1 was always going to be tough, a lot of holes to fill.

I didn’t expect UK to pants Blake Baker but I figured we would be 9-3

Even in a free transfer era, rebuilding a team with 50 plus transfers is going to be a challenge.

Cig did take Indiana to the playoffs in year 1 but they played what 1 or 2 real teams and lost both, also a lot of their transfers were his own former players so that’s slightly different.

Sec schedule, sec road games, a lot of holes to fill.

Year 2 and 3 will be the story

How can you "build culture" with 40+ new players every year? And probably many staff changes?

It's a fundamentally different thing now that only looks like the college football of old.

The rub there is Kentucky who was worse than we were last year and is well.....still Kentucky - beat us in his year one. Seems to me one coach did it better than the other one? 100% comparable.

The consistent elite teams are not totally building via the portal. They’re still recruiting well and filling in the gaps with transfers

Our plan is to get there but that takes time. It wasn’t an option last offseason and you had to basically buy an entire 2 deep.
