Would you be in favor or doing away with star rating for recruits?

The kid who is saying he wants a Lamborghini deal made think that we should reconsider the whole rating system.
Giving a talented high schooler a high star rating is instant leverage over all these schools and their collectives.
This kid has zero name recognition at this point, zero marketability, and is an unknown if he will be productive at the school he chooses. It’s simply an endorsement of talent & high school performance.
And that endorsement costs colleges in some cases hundreds of thousands of dollars per 4/5* kid.
We should reconsider the ranking system for recruits to make it that schools have to do more homework and the kids can’t instantly demand big money just because on3 says they are good in high school.
Rant over.

You think a kid wouldn't know they are highly sought after if they have offers from major schools?
You do realize that teams don't offer simply based off recruiting records? (I should say "most" teams . . . teams like Colorado may just do that)

I think they will always RANK based on position…RATING is much more subjective. I don’t have a problem with it if you clearly define what it means. In my son’s position it just means good enough to start as a Freshman in a P5 program. There ends up being about 50 per class…so yea, whatever.

Rankings inflate egos, but good luck telling private companies to shut down their business so collectives don’t have to overpay recruits.

Whew! A lot to unpack here.
1. The ratings done by private businesses. So I'm not quite sure how you legally "do away" with them?
2. The staffs don't simply wait for the ratings to be released to learn about the best prospects. They already gather than information on their own. And a kid doesn't need some online rating to legitimize his demand. The numerous recruiting letters, text/phone calls from numerous schools/coaches he receives along with OFFERS does that for him. The market is there with or without the rankings. Do you think offering HS prospects extravagant benefits is a new phenomenon? I hate to break the news to you. It's not. It was going on WAY before the internet even existed. Somehow both the coaches and players were able to determine if a player was in high demand...even without the ranking system.
This argument MIGHT make sense if NIL deals were truly extending for marketing purposes. They aren't. They are purely pay for play deals. And the car dealership owner or personal injury attorney isn't simply scrolling the web and picking out the guys he wants his favorite school to sign based upon their rankings. He's in communication with the staff to know which players the staff wants to sign. It's not like Gordon McKernan is the general manager of LSU football directing Brian Kelly which players to sign
But even if he was, the player wouldn't need a ranking to create leverage. All he'd have to do is say: "A booster for Texas is offering me this. Ohio State is offering me this. Georgia is offering me this. Can you match or do better?"

So you are going to eliminate the right to free speech, right?

You just gotta accept that LSU can’t compete at that level in the NIL space
If a kid wants a Lambo, LSU is out
If a kid wants a Lambo, LSU is out

Another example of a stupid question.

You don’t need it now. Everyone of these college recruiting staffs that spend all year long scouring the internet and local at local media for all around the country recruiting kids. They all have staffs that do this all year long. They know when a kid is really good, kind of good & kids that can potentially turn into a quality player

not like Gordon McKernan is the general manager of LSU football directing Brian Kelly which players to sign
Like the boosters for Florida who are holding back money to try to get Napier fired

I thought it was more along the lines of Kelly not wanting the pay for play players hence the DL void.

You are absolutely correct, but some people like to repeat negative things they see on this board like whining little women.

Then what would we have to bitch about.

Even McMahon can bring in a top 15 class in men's basketball, so feel free to have zero idea what's going on
