No I think it was Deangelo Benton maybe? They weren't enemies, deangelo respected Mr. Randle. I think they all sat down and decided what was best for Benton since he wasn't only staying a year. I gained a whole new respect for Coach Miles that year.

Two sides to this story.

I got the side from someone sitting in the room...Unless you are Benton, Miles, Rueben or his brother I'd like to know what you have to say..

Agreed on Williams.

Also, who was the DL that wore the purple suit?

The SHAQ story I remember (maybe wrong) was Dale met him in Europe while visiting a military base. SHAQ reportedly was asking Dale for some pointers. He was already wearing size 14 or 15 shoes and DB asked him how long he had been serving? After SHAQ said, "Sir I'm only 12", Dale asked SHAQ to introduce him to his parents....
Ugh I'm old my details grow fuzzy...but still a cool story.

Ryan Perriloux! Didn't we steal him from Texas.

...'course that didn't work out so well, so I guess it's not a feel-good story!

Bower sent his LOI to Florida and then Florida said dude we don't have room for you. Then he called Lsu and they had to fax him a LOI signing day morning. Thats the true story behind the Twitter leaks about bower that day.

The one I recall that absolutely flipped everyone in the country out was JaMarcus Russell. Stealing him from Bama and Auburn was a complete shocker.

Connor Neighbors is not an All-American or even a starter, but he is from the long lineage Neighbors clan from that disgusting red place two states over....

We don't win the 2007 SECCG without him, thus we don't win the National Championship. I think that pretty much makes it a feel-good story.

I am feeling pretty good about it, when you put it that way.

So far, the Y.A. Tittle has to be top dog. A coach showing up on campus of another school after enrolment, and telling the "prospect" to pack your bags, you are coming to LSU! Wow! That was back in the day for sure. NCAA would sh!t if that happened today.

The Whole Story

Great article!
quote:

Why did Title decide to call it a career after the '64 season?

He said it wasn't because a youngster by the name of Gary Wood took over his job.

"Gary asked my permission to date my daughter," Tittle said. "When that happens, it's time to quit playing football."
