re: What’s the real reason for the national hate for what Wade is doing?

They are absolutely PEARtrified of us being good

Is he now on the hate train too?
As a lsu fan we may be slightly bias. However, someone was gonna play these cards eventually. This is like Darrel Kevin and Andy from the office playing Dallas with uno and monopoly cards. And that’s the rules of Dallas. Hypocrisy.

I love LSU but this cult like obsession with Will Wade is so weird. He’s at LSU and therefore I support him, but so many people on these boards are acting like the man is already a hall of fame coach and will guarantee us a championship. It’s just strange behavior.

Hating on Wade is still the cool thing at the moment.
It's weird how they didn't hate on him when he was at McNeese or NC State.

Not only that. It was like he was born again and free from sin when he went to NC St. But heaven forbid he coaches at LSU. frick these clowns.

That’s like not at all the gist of this thread lol

It's because they didn't have the foresight to do knowing the rules of the game. WW is almost in a mandatory situation to create something out of nothing. I mean, he only had 1 remaining player to work with.
Haters gonna hate!
Haters gonna hate!

I wasn’t just referring to this thread. But going back to even before he was hired.

He CLEARLY has the best 5 year start as HC in school history.
It's almost like these "Wade worshippers " like winning or something. I know, CRAZY right???
I LOVE Will Wade. But I don't give a FLUCK if he, Matt McMahon, or Charles Manson is the coach as long as they're doing the job.
There are no choir boys winning big time in the 2 major sports. Some just have people fooled into believing that. Just WIN, baby!

Yeah, like his sins were washed away at McNeese, and all was forgiven. Then he leaves for LSU, and his sins of the past are exhumed. If they want to criticize him for leaving NCSU after one season go ahead. But don’t bring up the old shite you already forgave him for.
Reminds me of OM fans. They were fine with LK’s past and his idiosyncrasies as long as he was theirs. Now they blast him for the same things, say he’s not a big game coach (he was after all ONLY 55-19 at OM. OM!), and claim “I wasn’t one of the fans chanting “we want Lane!” at the UF game.”

And I'll actually watch LSU in a sport other than football

Have personal reasons for liking Will as a coach even if he wasn’t at LSU now or ever. But having said that wherever you rank LSU men’s basketball in terms of popularity among LSU sports. Arguably the last 5 years it’s maybe been at best 4th or 5th most popular, not valuable or important to the athletic program. LSU football in the 2020’s pulls the winningest coach in Notre Dame history. Before Saban that would have not have even been thought of as real without some kind of extenuating circumstances but LSU is now a Top-3 job in all of CFB. The LSU mbb job IMO has probably never been even a Top-30 job in the sport even after the tradition of players, talent, support or coaches before now.
You had/have one of if not the most talented young (CWW is still only 43) coaches in the sport that views the LSU job as a Top-3 job for him. Yeah everybody wants to not only feel valued and wanted but after his first stint he genuinely wanted to stay and came back to build something here. He chose LSU from others after VCU and then left a basketball school and an older kinda mini blue blood to come back. I wouldn’t say it’s a cult like following as much as I honestly can’t think of another coach comparable that is signing up for the LSU job. At 43 yo he is pretty much making his career decision that will more than likely define his entire career. LSU even when the team has struggled there has been high level individual talent it is quite unique in CBB. But to me CWW’s attitude towards coaching, his style, and outlook fits the age old LSU men’s basketball underlying philosophy when it’s been at its best. Which is basically a fan base and team that plays with an F U attitude to everyone else. The NCAA, the media, other SEC programs. He is embraced by the fans and embraces without it having to be said the mantra of what this is. Most that follow it know okay at 43 years old especially now with basically almost no rules, he could rattle off 15-25 years of actual sustained success by any programs measure. In his 5-6 years previously he did it at LSU immediately. Of course he made huge mistakes and it cost him. So wouldn’t say it’s a cult like following, I think people that live LSU basketball know this is the best we could ever hope for or get in a coach.

Certain coaches and fans over the history of sports have had love affairs, if you be will. It’s really not unheard of or unusual.
Sure, the Wade-LSU fan (some) bond is unique for a number of reasons. But as mentioned, he was the best LSU basketball coach and brought the most consistent winning since Dale Brown’s teams from late 70s-early 90s. For those of us who experienced winning basketball then and love the sport Wade represents the good times we lost for so long.
A lot of fans love renegade coaches. That’s Wade. He fights the system and pisses off big brother. That’s why he’s hated and LSU fans go to battle for him.
ETA: what Coastrashtiger said!

Much of it is tongue-in-cheek which is then amplified in response to LSU fans who seem to irrationally hate him for some reason. Most of those people aren't really basketball fans. They have casual interest, but not great interest. It's a polarizing push and pull created by the fans...not Wade.
That said, the reason LSU basketball fans really like him is pretty simple. He won. No, not at the rate of a Bill Self, or Mark Few, or Coach K. But that wasn't expected either. However, when LSU basketball fans have had to sit through the miserable fall at the end of Brown's career, the up and (mostly) down nature of Brady's 10 year run, the quick dopamine hit in year one of Johnson followed by a drop to the depths of the league, and the general waste of time in (at best) purgatory under Jones, Wade's consistency was a breath of fresh air. Fresh air that became even more appreciated when Wade immediately made a completely irrelevant in-state program (McNeese) relevant, while LSU fans had to sit through the worst coaching tenure in the lifetime of most LSU fans.
At minimum, fans feel with Wade that LSU basketball will at least consistently be in the "fight". Hopefully one day expectations can be higher than that, but for now that is enough for most LSU fans.

Illinois had the Balkan 5….. why not lsu?

Wade is using this as an opportunity to stick the NCAA's face in the mess they made with NIL/Portal. As well he should, they're the reason his first stint with LSU was cut short. Now he sees that the NCAA doesn't have the power that they portray (see Trinidad Chambliss), so he's gonna take advantage of it. Not only that, but he's in a situation where he can't lose. Best case scenario, he gets a stellar roster. Worst case scenario he makes the NCAA spend a shite ton of money in litigation cleaning up their own mess.
Why the hate? Because the coach is Will Wade and the school is LSU. Same reason Dickie V wanted Wade banished, but made exceptions for his buddies Pitino, Self, Calipari, Boeheim, etc. Wade and LSU being good at basketball went against his status quo. He defended the other because they are his idea of "blue bloods". In his feeble old mind, there's no room at the top for newcomers.

I mean honestly I think that if we are cleared to get all the guys we're trying to get, it ruins or at least taints CBB. With that being said, it's hard to blame WW for taking a swing at it when we have such a major roster build.

Pat Forde was whining about Wade on the radio yesterday afternoon. Apparently he was texting someone about the “flim flam artist” at LSU… how much you want to bet it was Calipari’s bitch arse?
