My sources tell me Jay is working on a shift that defends the walk better...

All jokes aside the shift is just a numbers game that is mostly played with pull hitters, or batter tendencies against LHP vs RHP. Really just using statistics and metrics to try to put guys in the right position to make plays. It's not a perfect science, but most coaches would say it's helped more than it's hurt them.

To answer your question though it's much more based on the hitter than it is the pitcher and hitting spots.

Enough of this. This is just not true. Stop acting like we're losing games because we don't have enough money.
Or maybe, just hear me out, Jay was able to recruit first round talent...like... you know ...most successful coaches do.

Not sure the last coach to win it all with a bad team. What an idiotic argument.
I always think the mentality behind building a roster is to rely on development out of high school, and them supplement through the portal. Obviously, there are some exceptions when guys like Tommy White, Paul Skenes, Jacob Berry, etc. enter the portal you go out and get em regardless.

This season was sort of a perfect storm of bad luck. Your pitching staff is not what you thought, Moore injury, portal additions didn't live up to the hype, Brown done for season, and a lot of failure in the development department as well.
Yeah, the "on paper" is a big one. Guys can scream it's not pay for play until they're blue in the face, but suppose a 5-star steps on campus and either doesn't pan out, doesn't play, etc. He's certainly not going to see as much money that next year as he otherwise would have if he were to perform well.

So, while it's not exactly pay to play. Play certainly dictates pay, though it may be delayed.

OP is gonna get dragged, but the question really isn't that bad.

I bet you hated it when they made dribbling legal in basketball and the forward pass legal in football too

And I bet you hated watching Paul Skenes pitch on Friday nights. Oh boy such an educated comparison. Just admit you're too shallow to understand the details of the sport and we can move on.

Damn leagues shilling for offense like always

And somehow views have gone up tremendously since the introduction of the BBCOR bat. Really throws a wrench in this entire more runs = more views argument.
Y'all speak of this as if defense is the only side of the ball that can be penalized in football. False starts, holding, illegal shift, ineligible player downfield, OPI, etc.

Baseball is not a contact sport, football is. There are a lot of similarities before the ball is snapped/hit after that is where my comparison ends because that's when the sports are no longer similar.

Just say you wanna see more hits and runs because it makes baseball more fun to watch and that'll tell everyone what they probably already know.
Which part? Or is it just all wrong? Care to provide a counter argument...that's usually how this works?
Alignment buddy, alignment. In baseball that's what a shift is, in football that's called pre-snap alignment. Last I checked baseball isn't a contact sport.

Would you like another straw man to attack?
In football you can play any sort of defense you see fit to counter the opponent, basketball you can play any defense to counter the opponent, in soccer defensive strategies can change as well.

But baseball... no sir offense takes priority. They already adjusted the balls to fly further, allowed torpedo bats, and let the players challenge strike calls (which I agree with). Along with outlawing the major shift.

The way I see it you need a pitcher and a catcher and what you decide to do with the other 7 guys in order to get outs is completely up to you. That is how baseball is meant to be played. It's a chess match. Sometimes it works, others it doesn't. But two things are certain, hitters don't need any more help than they've already gotten, and views aren't down because offense is an issue.

Those who want it outlawed aren't fans of baseball, they're fans of ball hit bat and go far and number on scoreboard get bigger.

If all you hear when Jay speaks is that he's throwing all accountability on players, then you're not listening very well. He owned up to misevaluating talent and roster construction, along with failure to develop them to the standards he expects.

At the end of the day, he can't play the game for them though. The players need to be held accountable as well. Whether that's an inability to throw strikes, have quality at bats/approaches, or make routine plays... that's on players.

That's what pisses me off about Costello, because him leaving is likely the reason we went out and signed Yorke.

I must admit at the time I was super excited to have Yorke, but obviously he hasn't panned out the way we expected him to.
At the time, the only one I really hated to lose was Costello because I thought 1B was all his after Bear.

Larson would've certainly gotten opportunity on this team, but I still don't think he would solidify himself as an everyday starter in the OF.
Forgive my ignorance, but where is all this coming from? Why all of a sudden is there a concern that LSU baseball isn't receiving enough funding? Was something said or brought to light? I feel like I definitely missed something.
Where are you getting this information from? This is not only false, but it's laughable.

I want you to go see where State finished in the baseball transfer portal. Then after that go look at their NIL valuation as a school.

There are VERY FEW teams, if any, out there with more money that they are able to invest in their baseball programs... Miss St is not one of them.

This is in no way a knock on state, great baseball school.
So, because we were outbid on 3 players you drew the conclusion that the baseball program doesn't have enough financial support? Even after signing the best transfer class?

The teams that are going to be successful in retaining the best talent in the portal and from high school ranks are going to spend the most money.

With all of that being said LSU is in the middle of the pack now in regards to NIL money for baseball

What's your source on this? Because if this were true, we would not have just reeled in the best high school AND transfer classes in college baseball.

Meanwhile his program is on pace to be a more current version of the run that skipp went on.

So are we having trouble adapting, or not? You're contradicting yourself big time.

Hopefully this administration will figure out what they need to do.

A rising tide lifts all ships. Baseball, basketball, and football are in a better position, financially, now than they have been in quite sometime, possibly ever. Jay will be taken care of.
