Culotta said we did not offer. He does the UHigh games.

Harris was begging for an ALA offer when he last visited. A&M was the bride's maid since he never recv'd a committable offer to yesterday. Here is Harris' statement following his visit to ALA earlier this year ... he was ALL Bama.
.."“Well, the Alabama visit was the best visit I’ve ever had,” Harris told BamaOnLine. “I literally couldn’t say anything negative about the place. They have everything I’m looking for in a school, which is a great academic program with academic support, great coaches who are willing to push you to your best potential, and a head coach who doesn’t just care about football, but cares about your life and your future.
“I talked with Coach (Pete) Golding, Coach Tosh (Lupoi), and Coach (Nick) Saban and loved every bit of it. Also, I know if I got there, they can help me with fulfilling my dream which is to play in the NFL. They have the best program in college football for that. I enjoyed my time there today and plan on coming in the spring for sure to see some of the practices.”

Did LSU offer or really wanted Harris?
Kinda not really
LSU offered as an H-back/ TE
He wants to play LB. Staff told him to come to camp and work out at LB to earn the offer. He didn't show up.

I have a feeling this one might come back on us later, seems like a solid player.

We never had any intention of playing him at LB so why lie? You think that's better and potentially pissing him off and ruining our relationship with Uhigh because we piss him off by lying to him?
It's not lying if you say you'll give him a shot. And I personally think it's dumb not to give him a shot at LB.

They gave him the shot to come camp as a LB, he did not. Why blindly offer him as a LB while quite literally never seeing him play a snap there or even workout there?
In the end it's pretty clear he didn't want to come here, he was enamored with Bama from day 1, and wanted to commit there a long time ago.

To be fair to the staff, they have Brooks and Starks rated higher and committed. Both of those guys are elite prospects.
They also believe Clark and Baskerville from last years class will develop into SEC starters. It's a numbers game.

Nah, they won't sign 3 NTs.
If it means making sure that we come up empty handed, yeah they will. That's one of Saban's tricks.

Saban making more inroads in Baton Rouge, offering a kid we didn’t who could very well end up being very productive

Then why did he commit to A&M first?
I work with his dad and have seen pictures of Christan with Kirby, Saban, O, Jimbo, Gus and some others. He really did have a first love of A&M. Saban never stopped courting him. I've seen a video of Saban driving Christan in Saban's 150K+ convertible. Saban is a salesman who delivers the goods. Can't blame the kid for picking a sure winner.

Because Bama didn't offer until recently.
This also tells me he's not an elite talent, or Bama would not have waited. They would have offered last year.
But don't get me wrong, they think the guy can help them, or they wouldn't offer at all.

Apparently didn't have a commitable offer from Bama

Well heck man...you got sources...so ask him.
Did he have a commitable offer from Bama? Why didn't he come to camp at LSU? Does he hate LSU?

but i was told - by this board - that he wasn't good enough for LSU and thats why we didn't offer him. i was told to shut up about all these UHigh players going somewhere besides LSU.
not good enough for LSU.
good enough for Saban.
yeah ok. bunch of head-in-the-sand here

Because he tried to commit to Bama earlier and was told to wait. He was holding his spot at A&M in case Bama couldn't take him. It was a matter of them seeing if they had room or not.

More of them have that haven't, just like the tightend Ed even admitted he passed on now regrets because he's an amazing player. Don't kid yourself if Saban wanted him he's going to be a player

Come on, man. Alabama misses on players, too. Hootie Jones and Tony Brown were barely contributors until their senior years. And they weren't even that great by the time they did get playing time.
The problem is, when Saban misses on a kid, he usually got one who he didn't miss on either the year before or the year after, so it's hardly even noticeable.
As opposed to when we have missed on kids (Clifton Garrett, Trevonte Valentine & Deondre Clark come to mind) we were counting on those guys to pan out, because we had holes at those positions in the years before and after.

I know Irv Smith looks like a great player, but you have to wonder how much Tua has made him look potentially a lot better than he is.
Where was Smith last year when Hurts was the QB? He had 14 catches for 128 yards. Now this year explodes for 35 catches, 613 yards and 7 TD because Tua is throwing it. His TD catch against us we had great coverage, but Tua literally placed it exactly where he only had a chance for it and it was damn near a perfect throw.
I think Smith is a good player, but I also think he wouldn't be any kind of household name here or if Hurts was still throwing passes to him. He's in the perfect situation at Bama, A+ QB, A+ WRs, A+ OL that gives him all day to get open.
