The implementation of contracts are about the only way to keep a player in the building.

Until then, players will have the freedom to routinely seek out what they perceive as a better opportunity, like any American worker can. But a contractual agreement can settle job movement for a specific length of time, or until bought out.

NIL can’t be regulated unless the business and player are dumb enough to put in writing that their agreement is contingent on the player playing at a particular school.

This is not true. Placing regulations around the transfer portal is what will eliminate the yearly bidding war for players. The clearinghouse is already putting in more regulations around NIL to where the collectives cannot just pay the player.

What happens to the players that dont find a school? No way all the kids that enter from every school across the country find a new place to play. What happens to those kids? Their football career is just over?

IIRC, 40-50% of those in the transfer portal don't find a new home and end up out of college football.

My thing with the portal is...when it first started, players waited til the portal was open to declare Then it was made that they intend to enter the portal. Now its, they declare for the portal and narrow their choices down or even commit to the other school, all before the portal is even officially open just keep pushing the boundaries

Neuheisel was just on Sirius Ch 84 relaying the story of the kid that just committed to Ohio St.

They had a reporter on scene that was told Miami the night before, then again this morning. 10 minutes before his live announcement, he takes a call from Ohio St and announces them.

Calls Cristobal after his announcement and says how tough it was to choose, but Ohio St made a better offer.

Then later does an interview with said reporter and gives quotes that he will be taking further visits, and who knows where he'll go, depends on who wants him bad enough.

I don't want that kid, I don't want LSU wanting that kid, and I hope for that kid to be on the other side of the field when LSU is playing in a big game.

I’m counting 6 players from 2025 NBA Draft & 9 players from 2024 NBA draft who are playing abroad & never signed an NBA contract.

While the loophole exists….

We're about to completely transform our roster in a single offseason

Unless you're a G5 fan, you should be ecstatic about the portal.

This example will be the norm in the NIL/portal system unless the coaches recognize these kids are not worth the time effort and $$$ they demand!

NIL/portal has made it possible for Indi-f@&$ing-Anna to win the Big TBQ++ and be the top seed in the Playoffs. IMO it’s NOT because they acquired 5 star talent in the portal. It’s precisely because they DIDN’T! The teams with 5 star talent have to pander to these prima donna mercenaries 24/7 365. Imagine trying to push these entitled 18-21 year old millionaires to their mental and physical limits to get them ready to play at an elite level and more importantly embrace a team first concept. Then after all that, spend the time energy and money to keep them at the end of the year! As much as I hate the portal, maybe Character and work ethic will be the new metrics coaches will be assessing to build future championship teams!

Indiana and Texas Tech have accumulated men that are playing against boys. I've said it in other threads, not gonna get into all the details, but it's no different than what you saw with UA-Little Rock in baseball in our regional this past season.

The combination of NIL mixed in with Covid eligibility has caused a paradigm shift in college athletics. Think about the last time a kid's grades were discussed.

Need a Commissioner of College Football to set more rules and regulations in place

That, in and of itself won’t do anything. A commissioner is not a “king” free to implement whatever rules he sees fit.

The NFL is an illegal monopoly. It’s allowed to operate in its form because ownership and labor (players) agree to collective bargaining. A commissioner can’t just unilaterally implement a “cap” (and by the way, the NFL has no NIL “cap) or rules. Owners and players have to agree to the rules. That’s why MLB has never had a salary cap. The players have never agreed to one like the players in the NFL have.

That means before anything can change there first has to be some sort of players union to negotiate with the schools/conferences. That also probably entails the players being deemed some sort of employee status. That’s why the NCAA doesn’t fight much because they know they will generally lose in court in antitrust actions.

Also, no matter what they say, the power conference schools don’t really want regulation. They LIKE the imbalanced playing field because it allows schools to kind of be like the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers in baseball. They can simply just outspend everyone. It’s also unlikely a player’s union would agree to a “salary cap”…at least initially.

It’s going to be a slow process, but the wheels are in motion. The first thing that will happen is the power conferences will break away from the NCAA and form their own league. How soon that happens will depend on the TV networks because it’s their money that drives everything.

Placing regulations to the transfer portal will get the NCAA back in court again for antitrust violations. They are already lost once which is why there are currently no transfer limitations.

The College Football Commission already is a joke just like the NCAA. Collectives are now just using legit businesses under NIL deals. The Commission cannot tell a business how to spend it's money & reject an NIL contract based on those factors due to potential antitrust violations. The College Football Commission is just as toothless as the NCAA at this point & it has been a waste of time & money.
