Lot of work to be done. I don't see replacing transfers with portal kids as being a big problem.
Finding 12 more HS kids worthy of an LSU offer at this point in the game to max out your 25 is IMO.

ok now do the Bama/Saban rules
I'll hang up and wait.
For each player who transfers out of the program, transfers into the program, or sneezes, the university shall receive:
- one initial counter to be used any time within the next twelve years;
- one Alabama graduate to officiate an SEC game of the university's choice within the following academic year, and;
- two Dodge Chargers.

LSU's roster is in dire need of bodies and at the current rate, the team will be lucky to have 65 - 70 players next season.

How would a portal player be counted if they don’t get picked up by anyone and decide to walk on somewhere?
you just answered your own question by the use of the term "walk on"

Nice work! Lots of good detail. Someone on Tigerdroppings that actually contributes useful credible information. Wow!

Who, in the TP would you try to re-recruit?
Posted on 1/6/22 at 2:49 pm to lostinbr
So there's a very good chance we can claim all 7 extra counters.

This is sorely needed. Thanks for the hard work.

Nice write up, 1 correction though, Anthony is out of eligiblity. He was a 2016 recruit so this was his 6th year.
2016 - redshirted
2017 - redshirt freshman
2018 - redshirt sophmore
2019 - redshirt junior
2020 - year didnt count
2021 - redshirt senior
The only thing there is MAYBE they can give a medical redshirt but that would be a 7th season of eligibility and I kind of doubt the NCAA would do that after giving the free covid year and he already redshirted prior. If they would he might already have his masters by fall of next year and then he would have to enroll in a PhD program maybe

LSU Football will most likely have 65-70 scholarship players in 2022 and then 80-85 in 2023.
The questions are: (1) who exactly will be in that 65-70 players in 2022 and, (2) Will our new staff mold/coach them to win 8+ games.

Deion Smith for sure. Bug Strong plays at a position where we desperately need bodies.
I think we have enough WR depth that Palmer and Moore aren’t devastating losses by any means. But when you have this few players on the roster, I think you want everyone back unless there’s a compelling reason to let them go.
Once you fill all 7 qualifying departures - and it appears we will based on the guys who already left plus the draft - every player that leaves represents a scholarship you can’t get back.

OK so if we are losing MORE than the max7 replacements allowed, what's to stop us (or any school) from " recalculating" a departing player's grades?
We KNOW that schools have to bend, connive, and be creative to keep players academically eligible - so what if Compliance were to, say, "hey Max Johnson- we were getting your transcript ready to send to your new school and we discovered some errors- turns out some of your credits in Basket-Weaving and Home Economics for Dumb Jocks don't qualify towards your GPA"
If a departing player was retroactively found to be academically ineligible, AFTER announcing his destination, who does it hurt?
Wouldn't it be heartbreaking if Eli Ricks didn't have enough passed hours or a high enough GPA to do sports next semester at Bama?

Yeah it appears I may have misread his bio on LSUSports.net. I could have sworn I read he received a medical redshirt for 2017 but now I don’t see that anywhere. I’ll update.

Thanks for all the work you did. It really clears up a lot of what is actually going on.

You can’t be serious.

Really informative and thank you. Looks like the three keys are academic eligibility, left the university on or after the last day of the fall term and have remaining eligibility. I had no idea how complex the replacement process was. Simply thought that if a player transferred, he could be replaced. Now I know it's not that simple. Bottom line, I believe Kelly & staff will be on top of this much more than O.

Great work. So, it does not appear that a player who is paid with NIL money but who does not receive a scholarship counts against the numbers. I expect some schools may have two classes of NIL recipients - (1) Elite 5* players who draw big (at least 6-digit) contracts; and (2) Scholarship-level players who would receive a normal scholarship (but not NIL money) but can't because the university has met its allotment. For the players in class (2), their NIL money would simply equal an amount of money equal to what they would have gotten if any scholarships were left.
In our current scenario, teams with unlimited budgets never need to worry about over-recruiting. We could see Bama, A&M, and Texas with, in effect, 120 "scholarship" players every year.
Are my assessments correct or am I missing something?

Damone Clark graduated in December, so he would have been academically eligible.
Hearing rumblings that Deion Smith may not be academically eligible to transfer, and that Brian Kelly is working hard to keep him and get him back on track.

Yes I think we will end up close to 70 scholarship players next year and then get to 85 the following year.
