You aren't remembering what happened exactly. LSU offered Dak very late. Randall was committed elsewhere and it fell through. LSU did not get on Randall until after NSD. In fact it was damn near April when Randall signed

Threads like these are so stupid.

I think there are multiple questions in the OP:
1) You have to rewind 3-4 years before either took an SEC snap. IOW, why were they ranked what they were coming out of HS? As the Gator guy noted, recruiting services have a vested interest in rankings.
2) Why is Dak performing at such a high-level and AJ basically slogging? Part of the answer is experience and part of it is system.
For those who say Dak wasn't very good last year I disagree. He was. He tended to make some boneheaded plays along the way but he was very good last year. Also, Mullen is an offense guy. He advances an aggressive approach on O. In Dak, he's got basically a Tebow clone. And now, he goes through his reads, buys time, makes plays - just looks very comfortable back there.
Our system isn't going to afford a young QB those same liberties. And it shouldn't and it shouldn't have to. AJ has talent. Still playing too tentative though. And our system needs to loosen up some and THROW the ball to the TE some (nothing to do with the OP but just wanted to state as much in closing).

Recruiting Question: How Was Jennings a 4 star and Dak a 3 star
Jennings was much more highly rated than Dak coming out of high school. But, the talent level is world's apart. How do the recruiting services consistently screw up QB ratings - especially the ones who come to LSU. Driskell was another highly rated QB who is terrible.
Is QB just that hard to grade?
Jesus...
How can you even compare the two right now? That's silly...

Tyran was the top rated player in the state. High 4 star.

No offer, and I will say it's because you're scared to compete. Same thing with the recruiting sites. Skip their camps and they will under rank you if they rank you at all.
True dat. The same thing applies to PG and baseball. While the concept is wonderful, it's all about money. It costs about $700 for the showcase but if you underperform that day the only way to remove any negative stats is to attend another showcase and perform better which of course will require another $700 dollars.

Because Jennings was a better ab coming out of high school. Dak has grown into the system that he is playing in. Just takes time and patience, which many here do not have.

I know one of the Haughton coaches and asked him about that. He said Dak's downside in HS was locking on his primary receiver only. If the receiver wasn't open he ran the ball. He did not go through his progressions.
He's obviously learned to do that now.

This!!! People are stupid if they believe in these rankings. You are listening to a bunch of middle age men that may or may not have played the sport at a high level past high school. Who went to college and got degrees in journalism and some not that. what's amazing to me is that I have come across a bunch of these guys over the years and none of them impress me. I remember the old adage, "those that can do, those that can't teach!" Same with these rankings, " those that can really evaluate talent COACH, those that can't RANK!" Which do you think pays more, writer or coach? Which would you do if you had the option?
What's amazing to me is how many people believe this type of nonsense. First off, no one ever said recruiting services or any kind of rankings are 100 or even 90% accurate, yet a lot of people are ready to pounce with any anecdotal case that they missed. Sure with 20/20 hindsight Dak Prescott is playing like a 5*. How about the other 1000 3* players that didn't pan out? Do you give the recruiting service credit for that? Of course not. With 5* it is the other way around. It is easy to notice the one's that don't pan out. Never mind that the #1 overall recruit for 2011 went on to become the #1 overall NFL draft pick in 2014. People will just say, well anyone could see Clowney was great, The key is not how of a 5 they get right, it is how they do relative to everyone else. If the current evaluators did not do a good job, they would be out of business. It is easy to sit from the side lines and pick nits, but look at the rankings, look at where the top kids go. Look at the team rankings and where those teams finish in a couple of years. Sure you have outliers like Oregon or Texas, but over time the teams that finish with top 10 classes are the ones that compete for titles down the line.

Over the next year or so, we will see how good Cam is at these things. I'm skeptical as of now.
Quick review.
Randal El, Frerotte, Trent Green, Brees, Rivers, Flacco, and a 3000yrd Mettenberger just last year...of the six (and not including Mett), 4 have Super Bowl rings...the other two? Pro Bowl'rs. Have a little faith. Geaux Tigers.

Dak wasn't rated high in high school because he wasn't any good in high school. Can't really fault the ranking in this case.
This is not true at all. Ask anyone from the area. He had all the tools just raw and didn't come on until late. Which is why we were late to the party.

A lie put out by LSU fans to try and justify missing on him. There was a lot of buzz around him for 2-3 years in North LA.
Exactly. We just slow played him and he already made up his mind.

I can't wait for the Egg Bowl or even Ms St vs Bama because Dak will be somewhat exposed. Now they still might win but he's not all world Cam Newton status.
I can't wait for the Egg a Bowl either but Bama is probably going to get destroyed. They aren't much better than LSU.

Which is what 90% of all high school QBs do.

Why would an LSU fan lie to take up for the player ranking which has nothing to do with LSU.
He was a good athelete but when we say he wasn't that good we are saying his rankings in highschool shouldn't have been higher with regard to him being a quarterback.
LSU DID offer him. We are talking about rival/247 etc not valuing him... NOT LSU! Nothing to defend LSU about.

diff year? id have to go look to see how many qbs came out in both classes and where other people were rated.

Predicting the future is always dicey. Anyone played a futures market, anyone gambled on football games. If you get it right just a tad over 60% of the time you can get rich fast. So why is everyone not doing these things?
Add in the special interests of the sites and camps and it makes it even tougher.

DP is a senior. We have owned him every year prior to this. He has become a better player each year. We don't know what Jennings or Harris will develop into. They could end up being better or worse. It is the responsibility of this staff to develop them.

Dak was a nobody before this season It takes time, experience and development to play the position
