Hurley 2.0
Strongly disagree. Hurley was not nearly as productive and did not demonstrate the same skill.
Hurley threw for 1500 yds his soph year and completed 53% of his passes 17/5 TD/INT (-)84 yds rushing
Houston had 4480, 70% compl, 38/6 and 690 yds rushing and 7 TDs.
Even as a JR Hurley only completed 56.5% of his passes. He did improve TD/INT to 26/7 and had 177 rushing and 7 TDs.
Houston is significantly more polished and has the ability to take over games.
They do have similar body types with a thick lower body more like a RB.
Either way, if he comes in he can compete with MVB and Hurley and LSU likely still looks for a portal QB if there's a good option.

I think you can find FAR more examples of guys reclassifying and amounting to nothing in college than guys that reclassified and it worked out.

He’s ready to get in the big VR room and practice to better himself

Across several sports.

Please God. I was hoping.

Houston turned 17 yesterday. So he would be 18 by the end of 2026 football season. But still not a fan of this idea. Just doesn't typically work out for qbs.

The fact that Houston brought up the VR Room himself insists that he's really about getting into this and learning.
And for the "physically ready folks", do yall remember how big Bryce Young was his entire college career?

The question is whether he's ready to join the team and take a redshirt in preparation for '27.
I think the bigger question is if it’s better for his development to redshirt vs getting playing time against high schoolers. Sometimes the jump just wrecks confidence and the extra resources don’t make the same impact you think it would.

That kind of seems like the same question.

I worry kids will be doing this more and more for the wrong reasons, just to get their NIL money sooner. I'm sure lots of bad advisors/family members will encourage this in our current environment.
Hopefully if he does this, it's for the right reasons and his maturity level is ready for college that young.

The first guy I actually remember doing it was John David Booty, who, coincidentally, went to evangel and was old for his grade, like Houston.

If Houston turned 17 yesterday, he is age appropriate for his grade. He has a good birthday for school ball, but he was not held back a year apparently.

Most of these kids are already held back a year, so reclassifying really isn't a big deal. The issue with Hurley is he was young for his class, and them moved up.

Been hoping for awhile one of the top 2027 QB’s on the board would reclassify.

As long as he's not 12 like Hurley was I don't care

I read that Louisiana kids are getting NIL deals in high school regardless of if they reclassify or not. It’s smart because it ties the kid to the school they committed to because they are contractually obligated, and if they decommit they have to give back whatever money they received.
As far as reclassifying goes, I’m for it. The dude looks legit to me. And we just had a linebacker play the second half of the Florida game who should be playing high school ball right now. Not out of the realm of possibility that a quarterback could do the same.

With NIL I don’t see a reason for a top prospect to commit before signing day…

A year in lsu workout program and learning the system is better than another year throwing against lower competition in HS. Just my opinion tho.

I think that’s the point. Mississippi doesn’t allow their high school players to receive NIL deals, technically, but Adidas did by giving Tristen Keys deferred payments. And of course that was on the condition he signed with an Adidas aligned school, Tennessee, while he was still committed to LSU. That’s how everyone knew he was gone.
