I hope his mom tears them a new one and then tells Frank "You better carry your arse to Baton Rouge!"

Right, but he was the Recruiting Coordinator. The leader is responsible. Saban said so in his book..

LSU's Manship School of Journalism is pretty prestigious, without the ESPN name, fwiw...

If Herron truly is seeking a career in media and less competition on the line, he should consider Missouri instead. They have the best journalism school in the US and I believe the only good player on their D-line was Sheldon Richardson who is no longer there.

didn't inform his highschool coach

Here are direct quotes from an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at his high school, Bryan Williams, before the visit:

“We love LSU. LSU has been loyal to Frank throughout the entire process,” Williams said. “He is a very important part of their class and we really love those coaches. It feels like family for him down there.

“But as coaches, we want him to just see somewhere else so when he makes his decision on Wednesday, he’ll know without a shadow of a doubt that this is where he wants to be."

Then you got Memphis Central head coach Lynord Crutchfield who had no idea that Herron was visiting Texas.

Seems to me that Porter is buddies with Williams, and not Crutchfield.

Either way

I spoke with a friend of mine who lives in Texas and follows Texas recruiting very closely. I take him at his word. Basically, he offered me info that falls along the line of what Chicken posted.

Herron did not give a verbal commit to the Texas coaches but from everything that my friend has heard they are feeling very good about the situation. They received extremely positive feedback from Herron and feel they have a very good chance (>50%) that he will sign with them on Wednesday. In fact, they are counting on it.

Also, this would be happening even if Nkemdiche never mentioned LSU. He also said that Herron supposedly let it be known that he felt he committed to LSU too early and failed to allow himself to see what options might open up for him. As his stock has risen, more attention has been steered his way. None of it was tempting enough to make him think about changing his commitment to LSU until Texas put the full court press on him.

They are really talking up the academics, how Texas is so much more respected than LSU in that regard.

Where are those quotes from, if you don't mind my asking? Read elsewhere that Crutchfield set up the visit and Williams had no idea.

So it's somehow a bad thing that LSU was on him early and wanted him before everyone else?

These Texas clowns can spin anything.

Haha, yeah he really cares enough about journalism and competition to go to Mizzou.

I think we get both and we have Montgomery/Mingo part two, just better, I'm an optimist.

Hopefully, Herron will remember how LSU made him an early priority and that will weigh heavily in his decision.

Even if we get the #1 he is the #2 and he will be a #1 on draft day along with playing for an incredible D-line at LSU.
