He also pointed out that he went on the visit and didn't inform his highschool coach

I thought his high school coach is the one who brought him to UT?

Can Texas really offer more immediate playing time or use the competition angle against LSU? We lost our top 3 DE's and Rasco is the only lock at DE for next season. The rest of the guys can be beaten out if he has a good camp. He needs to think long and hard about this. Getting to play pro ball in front of the ESPN cameras in 3 years >>>>> getting coffee for Skip Bayless!

I think he went to Austin with his dad.

You've followed recruiting long enough to know that whatever excuses are offered up at a last second switch to team no one saw coming are all bullshite. They just can't say what the real factor is.

Especially when the kid gets taken to the visit by a non-family member that is friends with an assistant at the school.

The crazy thing to me is how Texas is throwing out the broadcasting major out to most recruits. That major will be full of football players.

It's still pretty amazing that the NCAA allows for it.

They can't bite the hand the feeds them. I'm shocked the NCAA told ESPN and Dodds that they couldn't broadcast Texas HS games and highlight Texas HS recruits on it.

Makes me wonder how many interns can they cycle through each semester. I'm guessing the internship requirement at UT is only 1 week.

This. It's about getting sold a line and falling for it.

I think this was after every school in the Big 12 including TAMU and Mizzou called them out on it. NCAA had no choice but to step in after the schools made grievances. I don't think they would've done it on their own.

LSU's Manship School of Journalism is pretty prestigious, without the ESPN name, fwiw...

kid has a verbal for months, months and more months w/LSU...takes a super secret last minute trip (egged on by Porter), and it's 50/50?

I think a few things in LSU's favor:
he didn't commit while there and
he didn't tell his Mom what he was doing and by all accounts, she is pissed. If it were my kid, I'd be pissed too. Frank and his Mom gave the LSU staff their word less than a week ago. IMO, this is a case of a dirty recruiter (See Willie Lyles and Akeim Hicks) and a HC with an agenda misguiding a good kid. Hopefully, his Mom sets him straight and he honors his word.

It was his HC. The assistant coach at this HS in Memphis has handled his recruitment. His HC and Larry Porter are close. They both orchestrated this entire deal without Herron's parents knowledge.
