if LSU offered Bates to get MJ why did LSU wait months to offer him? If they're willing to throw away an offer on one kid just to maybe get his teammate, why would they wait?
I'll let you think about that for a sec........You think maybe they were going thru the process of evaluating where they stood with everything, including the present class? There are more factors involved here than just offereing to get another player, if you thought thats what I meant, then shame on your dumb arse.
But to take the stance that there is NO possibility this happens or was happening here, is simply moronic.

So let me get this straight, none of you brilliant men who have answered don't think colleges show interest in certain players get in better with a better teammate?
Perhaps they show more interest in players that are borderline that have a teamate that may be highly regarded. This may also hold true for recruits that are outside of LSU's backyard (ie. out os state players would be more comfortable coming to lsu with a friend).
However, MJ is just down the road from LSU. LSU offered the greyshirt to Bates when they started picking up guys like JC Copeland or Ego who were late surprises.
You're a bit out of control, in both your delivery and theory.

And after that, LSU has not had an once of success with MJ.
I think the one who saw the writing was Bates himself. He ran from the competition and gave up on a dream offer he had. Again, my point exactly, LSU wasn't as interested in him as they were in others and he was expendable! That tells us all that there were other factors in our interest in him. Wonder what one of those factors was? Was he the top DE left when we offered him? NO NO and NO.
Good day, sorry my delivery isn't up to speed, but it is not a theory that this is going on and always has. I've seen it go as far as recruits demanding to play at the same place as their teammate.
Do you remember the package of 4 players out of Miami area last year? 3 were top notch and a 4th was offered at many places that were trying to land the whole group. Not sure of the details off the top, but I'll look it up for you.

I'm not that worried about Johnson. He'll be a Tiger imo.Just taking his time to make sure it's the right fit. He's expressed nothing but love and admiration for the LSU program from what i've read.he's been impressed every time he's been to the campus. The rest of the LA guys this year will make sure he comes to LSU.If he does choose to go somewhere else then that's good for him.I'll be a little upset but we'll get someone else and be fine. It's a long way to go before signing day.last year we weren't even recruiting Kadron Boone and JC Copeland at this point and we landed both. Also we were not in the picture with Fobbs for a while but when we turned it on he came over to the good guys.just relax and the cards fall the way the fall.

I put up an interview he did yesterday and it was taken down from the board cause it was copied from another premium site. (and I got my arse chewed)
It made it pretty clear that LSU was not in his future so I know LSU's coaches understand this which made it real coincidental that Bates was given teh greyshirt option, I'm sure they thought he would still come because it was a dream of his.
But MJ?......he's not into us at all.
Here's an excerpt
“I like the idea of playing under a coach that is strong on defense like Charlie Strong, Nick Saban or Bo Pellini.“
“I’m originally from San Diego, I was born there. I’ve only lived here for eight years, so it’s not like I grew up an LSU fan.” Johnson added,
would love to get an offer from, Johnson quickly replied, “SC. I’d love to have a chance to play for USC.”
“Alabama, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Oklahoma State really stand out to me right now.” Johnson said. “Alabama and Oklahoma State are the schools recruiting me the hardest right now.”

In another day & time fans would be ranting that our coaches are costing us recruits. So is Chavis also one who is not strong on D and now costing us a recruit? Mickey seems to know what he's talking about and wants to play where this is an aggressive approach to D and not the patented bend-don't break approach.

OK State is after him because one of their Grad Assistants went to St. Pauls. He is going to have to have a very dominant Senior season to warrant an SC offer

Don't underestimate Orgeron's want to keep getting kids out of LA.

I hear you but it's Southern Cal, not UT. They get the cream of the crop, and as much as I like Mickey Johnson......he is not a 5* just yet.
It would be a classic O move to offer him though

If he doesn't want to come then I'm ok with that. He's not as good as Sentimore and we are surviving that just fine. We'll just take hunter or another guy from OOS.We will not have a problem getting quality DTs.He fits better in the 3-4 anyway so while I'd love to have him I won't lose sleep over him with other good(maybe better)options out there. He's not Rasco so the only downfall will be if he goes OOS and the articles all slant it as though we're losing ground in LA>ESPN particularly loves to put info out there that makes it seem as though we're losing our ground in state. It's ridiculous. No one gets a higher percentage of offered in state kids except for Texas and maybe OSU.

Once USC offers, and Orgeron will offer - make no mistake about that, MJ is going to move into the top 10 of the DT rankings.
Then, if he commits to somewhere else, TD board will be as sick as I will be (melt-down-mode).
That's my prediction and I'm sticking to it.

What's bizarre is that he seemed to be begging for an LSU offer...before he was offered. The guy has been to at least two LSU summer camps (past two years running) already and will probably be at the LSU camp this summer.
Unless he is just trying to improve his skills and gain publicity by taking advantage of the strongest div 1 school geographically closest to him (LSU in BR), the guy has to have LSU in his top three.
I'm not buying the story that he is not interested in LSU.

The young man sounded nothing like the statments we heard from Joe McKnight. Mickey has great character...that was easy to pick up from his radio interview.

He loves to play games, has a very big head and most likely wants to wait as long as it takes to get 5 stars if possible

After reading this, it's clear to me that this is all due to the way LSU treated Houston Bates.
Man, you are a fool.

I'm not reading 3 pages, but it was all a joke. Mickey committed to play in an All-Star game.
