I like adding Carter. Will probably be the Mike Williams catch and shoot off the bench role. Has good lower body control and decent form. Not really fazed by contests. If we could add a backup pg or a stretch big i would feel even better.

Givens update. He’s also still asking for 1M apparently lol

Now I'm not particularly excited about Carter, assuming he comes off the bench, great. But if we traded Givens for Carter then thats a trade I make 10/10 times
LOL if Memphis pays that guy anywhere close to 7 figures, Givens is a lunatic wanting that much

Is McMahon on the hot seat this upcoming year?

A scorching hot seat, yes. Make the tournament or fired.
We havent missed the tournament 4 years in a row under 1 coach since 94-97 under Dale Brown when we got put under crippling sanctions.
Johnny Jones got fired after missing the tournament 2 years in a row after he made it in year 2.
Trent Johnson got fired after missing the tournament 3 years in a row after he made it in year 1.
John Brady got let go 1.5 seasons after he made the final four missing the NCAAT both of those season (fired mid season in 2nd year after F4)
McMahon has had an awful long leash

Maybe from a NIL perspective, but Givens has way more upside.

Givens was vastly vastly overrated coming out of high school. Not sure about that at all. Dude was the most pitiful player I've seen get significant minutes here in the last decade. He didnt do 1 thing remotely well or decent, even struggled to do more than 1 thing barely even average or below average. He was just a very very bad player overall.

That’s what I’ve thought too. It seemed like a decent hire at the time. I haven’t looked it up, but I thought he’s done decently well recruiting the high school ranks at least. I am surprised he’s doing as poorly as he is.

Ole Miss makes the most sense as I don't believe they have a point guard on their roster right now.
Most teams are looking at him as a backup who can develop. If anyone expects him to start they have to be banking on him taking a big step forward this offseason. Not impossible but I doubt any coach is paying $1m for that risk.

Yes Mcmahon is on the hot seat this year and no Givens isn't worth $1 mil. He played on an unbelievably talented team in HS along with 4 other players that started and performed well at P5 schools this year including Cooper Flagg. He was overrated coming out of HS. Doesn't mean he can't develop and improve next few years but at this time not worth what he wants.

He's retained 2 of the 10 guys he's taken from the high school/JUCO ranks, rest have transferred out. The recruiting classes are a very clear step down from what we had previously under Wade. They arent bad, but they arent enough to compete in the SEC as it is now either. Which is fine if he hit well in the portal, but hes struck out WAY more than hes hit from the portal which is another issue.
The NIL landscape certainly has had an affect on things to this point, but now there's not supposed to be any more excuses there. The only reason he has been retained is I dont think they garnered up enough to buy him out end of this past season (would have been around $9M I believe), and Woodward is trying to force the issue a bit his guy will work with NIL backing now basically. NIL backing doesnt mean more money out the schools pocket where as a buyout kind of is.

You guys may be getting JJ Andrews. Apparently he really likes the staff there and would have larger role.

That would be awesome, but we need JJ Andrews next season!

We don't yet know what the final LSU roster will look like or how minutes will be distributed, but we can calculate an average BPR for the current players. The current roster rates out at 1.56 avg BPR. For reference, last season's team was 1.86, and the season prior was 2.22. It's likely LSU will go into next season in that 70 - 110 roster ranking group, and the vast majority of minutes will go to new players.
As of today, it's probably a safe bet that this isn't an NCAA tourney roster next season.
The addition of Tamba lowers the avg BPR to 1.50. As of now, I would say the roster has gotten slightly worse vs. last season.
With that said, ON3 has a new transfer portal ranking system.
quote:
On3's Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window.
And they currently have LSU at -1, meaning that they also view the roster as worse than last season.

What do yall think about this regarding Blake Harper? Per Brune:
quote:
Alright, just talked to a couple sources at LSU about Harper and essentially they didnt see him as being that good. The MEAC is awful, Kenpom has it as the third worst conference in the country (29/31). For reference the Summit League (Marquel Sutton) was 17th and Northeastern (Rashad King) was 20th. Huge huge disparity between that and being a contributor on an SEC team this year i think.

Harper may not have been worth the drama or NIL, but he was a good player. Clearly we got edged out by a decent program in a different conference, so I am not going to worry about it.

They are just covering for not wanting to pay for a very good player in Harper.
Harper put up big numbers against a few good teams this year, he wasnt just good because of the MEAC.
@ Kansas (very first ever collegiate game) - 16 pts (6/10 FG, 3/3 3PA), 4 reb, 3 ast
@ Cincinnati - 23 pts (8/16 FG), 10 reb
UNCW (made NCAAT) - 18 pts (5/11 FG, 3/4 3PA), 7 reb. 4 ast....Howard WON this game, against an NCAAT team
Creighton flat out paid more than us, pretty obvious. We've been scraping bottom of the barrel for our last few pickups, they would have came very cheap.
Harper was conference player of the year and just a freshman this past season, he was not coming cheap wherever. Just sad Creighton apparently has more money than we do - and they already had a better transfer class as well than we did even before Harper.
Brune just trying to save face there, or reporting what he was told to report basically. Harper will be way better than PJ Carter or our last couple pickups I would place a large bet on.
There's a better argument Blake Harper would have been the BEST player we've taken in the portal this cycle than all the crap about him playing in the worst conference. Dude was a true freshman and absolutely dominated, and against some good teams outside the MEAC. He can very clearly play.

I disagree with the roster being worse. You have Reed and Miller coming back. Both have the skills to be dominant players next year. We have increased our size which was also an issue last year. Won't have any bigs just backing uo Collins and Chest due to their skinny frames. And we won't have a guard under 6'1" and many of our wings can play 2,3 or 4 so there is diversity in their game. Again need to see if those skills can translate to the SEC but at least they have experience and we aren't depending on 4-5 players with little or no collegiate experience.

I really liked Harper but not sure what his number was. At some point you have to say no if the price is too high or you don't have the funds.
