That’s a really good pickup actually. Dude went nuclear multiple times this year. I believe he even had a 43 point game

I don't really know anything about any of these guys, I'm just hoping for the best.

Yep, still need at least one more shooter. McMahon saw Caleb grill and wanted one for himself. 6,6” is good, he appears to be more of a perimeter player. His transfer tape is mostly 3’s and driving for layups, but I don’t think he’s going to be beating SEC guards off the dribble. Maybe he’ll occasionally beat a lazy defender to keep them honest on his shot. I like the pickup as long as McMahon can scheme him open 3’s…

More of an all around scorer. Only averaged around 3 3P attempts a game

I said this in another thread. Kid can shoot but averaged 14 shots per game and only 3 were from 3 land. Just because he is white doesn’t mean he is spot up

Definitely need another reliable/more than adequate shooter.

Crafty scorer.

They for sure have to add at least one more true shooter from 3. Last Year's team had barely any shooting.

Mike Hansen 2.0. Hansend dropped 40 on the Tigers in 1990 then decided he wanted to be a Tiger.

I wonder if they try and enhance those 3 point attempts a little more if he's hitting >40%. That will probably be his role more on this team, harder to score from 2 on this level but he can eat from 3 with an elite distributor/ball handler and wont be asked to take over games here overall. His FT percentage went from 70-71% FR/SO year to 89% last year. Looks like he just became a much more polished shooter.

Like the pickup

I don’t really care about the portal rankings but I do like the size he’s putting together. That was one of our biggest weaknesses last year. Hoping it all transfers to SEC.

The tweet by the OP is marketing him as that. But if you dig a bit deeper I'm not so sure he's the "sniper" everyone seems to think is. He took less than 100 3 point attempts last year. Only 27% of his total FG attempts were from three. He averaged a little less than 2 made 3 pointers a game. Where he was really good was scoring inside, distributing, and getting to the FT line (where he shot 89%)

For comparison, Jordan Sears was a 43% three point shooter the year before he came to LSU, averaging twice as many attempts per game.

But Sears was shooting off the dribble which is way more likely to not translate than Mackinnon being more of a C&S guy
