I know he wasn't on our targets list anymore, but Jamarion Sharp got picked up by Ole Miss
Once we got Baker we really didn't have a fit for Sharp. Interesting that he chose a school pretty close to us. If we didn't get Baker I would have loved to roll with Sharp.

Any chance we could go after the kid who just decommitted from Michigan? 6'10" with 7'4" wingspan.

They may not quite be a NCAAT next season, but Beard at Ole Miss is going to be a problem many nights out in SEC play

The TE that just committed to Kelly is a very good basketball player, and is open to playing both. Here is the post from Dandy Don:
“BOOM! As expected, LSU football picked up a huge commitment yesterday when elite in-state tight end Tre’Dez Green gave his verbal pledge to the Tigers. At 6-7 and 240 pounds, Green’s size and athleticism make him a great all-around tight end and a serious weapon in the passing game, as evidenced by his 42 catches for 864 yards and 14 touchdowns last season as a junior at East Feliciana. Green also displayed elite athleticism on the hardwood, where he averaged 27 points, 11 rebounds, eight blocks and five assists per game for East Feliciana’s basketball team. He’s coming to LSU on a football scholarship, but it sounds like the staff has kept open the possibility of him pursuing both sports, if possible.”

I assume he wouldn’t use a basketball scholarship, but he would provide a boost in the thick of the basketball schedule. He’s the #1 2024 basketball recruit in Louisiana as a power forward.

Interesting. I don't keep up with football recruiting all that closely so I missed that he was open to being a two sport athlete. We are pretty deep at TE so maybe there's a chance he's able to split his time

This never happens some of you people always get tittilated about this and the player never sees the court. It just doesn't work so forget about it. He will be quite the terror in the intramural court, though.

Two names come to mind … Charlie Ward and Julius Peppers. It takes a rare breed but to say it never happens is false.

Peppers was 20 years ago and eventually gave up basketball even before leaving UNC. Ward was 30 years ago.

Things aren’t the same today.

Sometimes they switch sports; Ben McDonald , Lyle Mouton and Zach Von Rosenberg come to mind.

Trey'Dez is supposedly the #2 ranked player in Louisiana per Prep Hoops:
LINK

He's huge at 240, and will probably get stronger in the weight room, so no one is going to push him around on a basketball court. He moves very well for his size, and he looks like he has a smooth stroke, and this Twitter says he will play basketball in college:

His stats are ridiculous. I'm definitely titillated!

You would love to see it...but those plan almost never seem to work out. There is just too much specialization and overlap between the two sports. The last guy I remember successfully playing both was Bruce Ellington at South Carolina. That was almost 10 years ago. And those were terrible South Carolina basketball teams.

Point being, if he were to be an actual contributor on the basketball team is likely means the team is awful and is struggling to find talent. There are plenty of good basketball players out there to make it unnecessary to take on a football player who can only play 1/2 a basketball season.

Chad Jones, Clay Parker and Chris Jackson ( he is still Chris Jackson ) are baseball / football combos that worked out but basketball/ football never does.

Because the seasons overlap too much.

Basketball games start in mid-November and a good football team plays into the 1st week of January.

They miss half the season and join the team as conference play has already started.

The team may not be terrible overall, but we might be bad at rebounding and rim protection. He wouldn’t cost the team s scholarship, so even if he only plays 15 minutes a game to spell Fountain and offers some net benefit, it would be worth taking him on. Even if we manage to sign some good rebounders and rim protectors, he can probably still offer some benefit. If I were CMM, I would be very accommodating to him.

Using the very top of the top tier of two way players doesn't prove that anyone can do it.

It's like saying there should be more two-way baseball guys because of Shohei Ohtani.

A) Ward was 30 years ago.

B) He was good enough at football to win a Heisman and good enough at basketball to play in the NBA.

Both sports have changed in the last 30 years, with the time commitment expected being the biggest change and the biggest hurdle. And on the off chance that a kid doesn't happen to be a generational athlete and actually has to work to adjust to the speed and talent level of either sport they're doing themselves a disservice by cutting their reps on both short by splitting their time.

I'm sure McMahon would let him be a part of the team if he Green wanted to. But that's not the issue. History has shown it is incredibly difficult to play both sports in college. Jordan Toles found that out when he too came to LSU wanting to play football and basketball.

When you are on a football scholarship the football coach expects football to be the top priority. At best a football players joins a basketball team in early January...just as conference play starts and at almost the midpoint of the season. Coaches are also zeroing in on their rotations at that time. A football player just joining the team is likely going to need a bit of time to acclimate himself to a different sport. So, at best, you're looking at mid-January before the the player is ready to contribute...all while the football coach is still expecting him to meet his offseason football requirements.

In recruiting a HS player who also has a desire to play basketball the football coaches don't push back hard on that desire. The reason is they know once the kid gets to school and realizes how difficult it is to actually play both at a high level he will quickly abandon the desire to play basketball.

Nothing is impossible. I just wouldn't count on him ever playing a basketball game for LSU not matter what he is saying now.
