If he plays basketball, it'll most likely be as a role player. He's not going to join the team to turn it around. He would join to help the team improve a couple of weaknesses. It doesn't take a lot of practice to rebound and block shots. If he played a position or brought a skillset where we were already at least average, then I don't think he would help, but if he brings toughness, rebounding and rim protection, which is our weakness, then I think he can contribute at the time that we would need him most. It doesn't matter if he misses the entire non-conference schedule. We want a boost when the schedule gets tougher.

Girard is down to LSU and Clemson
If true, than it will be LSU. It would be a shame to come out second to Clemson for a player

Clemson finished 3rd in the ACC last year. Girard has played in the ACC his entire career and has been recruited by ACC teams since HS. While it would be disappointing to lose him to Clemson, to pretend like Clemson doesn't have an edge on Girard is just wrong. This isn't football recruiting.

True, but when it comes to CMM's offense we all saw just how bad it was being run with players that put in a whole summer's worth of practice. Unlike H.S. where you can have a player float and 4 guys run a set this staff's offense is heavily dependent on player spacing, timing, and knowing where to be by all 5 otherwise it ends up being a total crap show out there. Same can be said with playing team defense on switches, traps, etc.

I think the offense will change anyway, because we're not going to be running the entire offense to free up 1 player. Phillips wasn't exactly the smoothest, but he still contributed. I think what we'd ask Green to do will be similar, and it won't be that complicated.

Georgetown recruit Marvel Allen has just decommitted and on on3 and Rivals it says 100 percent to LSU. Allen is a 6’4 190 lb PG. 5 star recruit.

This is interesting. Here is a future cast prediction from Rivals saying 100% LSU. I would love to get Allen to solidify the HS class, but I hope this doesn't affect Girard, because he's a proven player. Allen's listed as 6'5", so he might help on defense and a little on rebounding at 4 per game, but he's only a 31% 3 point shooter and a 51% 2 point shooter.

Again these forecasts are from over a year ago. From when he was coming to lsu under wade. He was going to be an early enrollee Think he had some injury issue so didn’t enroll early and obviously followed nickleberry. There has t been a forecast since March of 2022

The link I posted shows that he just decommitted, and then has a future cast of LSU.

For what its worth Allen's stock has fallen consistently and drastically during his senior year to a point where he is ranked closer to 100 than top 15 like he was his soph/junior season when Wade recruited him. Mike Williams on the other hand actually improved his stock his senior year and not only has he always been a solid defender and mid range scorer, but he has picked up his 3pt shooting. Williams might surprise us in a year or two. Allen will most likely be going to FSU anyway.

So Girard is going to Clemson. Right?
Posted on 4/29/23 at 5:51 pm to Chalkywhite84
No announcement has been made yet but my guess is that Clemson is the favorite anything can happen though

Tyrin Lawrence, 6'4" junior guard from Vandy might be a fallback if LSU loses Girard. He entered the portal 5 days ago and is close with Jordan Wright and LSU has been identified as a suiter. Had a breakout year scoring 13 Pts on 36% 3's and over 50% total FG to go along with 4 REB and nearly 2 AST and a steal per game. Girard would be nice if Cook has problems with a waiver for 2023 but Lawrence would fill the bigger guard need and defensive player the team needs if Cook is eligible. Also doesn't look like Tre White is showing much interest in LSU and vice versa - not a surprise since he plays much the same position and size as Ward, Mwani, and Wright.

Tyrin Lawrence would be quite acceptable if he wants to come, thank you.

Lawrence is in no way a fall back. He’s a stud. He should be a take 100x over Girard. He’s a guard with height and length that can score.

Agree. The problem for MM is that LSU is probably out of starting spots to offer. Cook and Wright aren't coming off the bench after transferring in for their last season. Stewart could have gone to multiple schools and started, so it's unlikely he came to LSU to come off the bench, esp. considering the options he had.
