The pitching staff still has me baffled. Nearly every pitcher took a step back. How is that possible.

Wonder where he will fall in the rankings

Tennessee just fired their pitching coach. He was originally brought in as like a player dev guy after being the PC at Cincinnati. So he was the natural guy to take over for Frank, but it didn't go great.
And I'm guessing he was a choice of convenience and not preference by Elander since he was already there. But Elander isn't the one who brought him in initially.
Interested to see where they go with that spot.

Maybe this is the special sauce? Braswell was way more good than bad

I didn't watch too much of Tennessee this year, but their fans seemed to complain far more about pitcher selection as opposed to pitcher performance.
You'd have to assume pitcher selection is an Elander decision, at least to a greater extent.

Its an odd decision from the outside considering their pitching carried them much of this year. But maybe they just didnt get along. Elander really needs to nail that hire to keep his own job IMO. Also, they’re overall talent level on the position player-side just seemed lesser

Clauss has taken LSU out of his twitter bio, I'd expect a portal announcement for him soon. As has been expected.

To be fare, Chase Shores made good money.
He absolutely will get the chance to start, but if he isn’t killing it I coild see him ending up on the pen, because this years performance isn’t getting him first round money if he does it next year.
I think we should go after at least 1 sure starter and a second guy with experience.
I would expect at least 1 weekend starter to be signed and 3-4 additional guys that can provide steady consistent outings out of the pen.
This would provide a good mix from returning guys, experienced transfers and freshman.
This is exactly what I was thinking about Evans, he could be drafted high if he can replicate what he did as a freshman as a high level reliever a la Chase Shores. I really loved his role, maybe he makes the leap, but even in his best outings, he didn't get you far in a game as as starter. It would be such a luxury to have him step into the middle of a close game if we can get another starter to take his place.

Not altogether surprising. Without knowing exactly who he'd be competing with for playing time, he may be best served going somewhere with less uncertainty in the infield.

That stretch of time when Pearson was hurt and we rolled with Reaves at 3rd instead of trying Clauss there was telling.

My concern about evans isn’t his stuff but if he’ll ever really have endurance necissary to be a consistent starter. Even in his best long outing he looks like he is laboring after like the 4th inning/60 pitches. Clearly the results diminished as well.
Exactly. Dude has elite stuff, but he’s been bad as a starter for 2 years. His freshman year, he was one of the best pitchers in the country in relief and unplayable as a starter. It’s a tough call, but it seems like he’s destined to be a reliever.

He was nails in a de facto starter role against ucla in Omaha last year in the rain delayed event

Something against LR in the regional. He didn’t start but he basically worked a starters workload

That outing was 4.1 innings
He had 6 good inning vs Little Rock and 6 good ones against Tennessee that year (well 5 good ones after he stopped tipping pitches)
I dont think he’s incapable of going 6 innings, but can he consistently go 6-7-8 to protect the bullpen?
if we can add Hood or Suchy or both…

Really interesting guy considering he basically didnt play at Wofford his first 3 years there and then this year (Year 4) is a starter and hits nearly .375 (with no power really, but an insane clip nonetheless with more walks than strikeouts and nearly .500 OBP)
Played LF, which if he could play CF might be worth taking a strong look at but I just wonder why the dude couldnt get any playing time for 3 years at Wofford

I saw this kid list himself as a DSA in his portal announcement. I'm guessing it's relevant as I've seen some others do that as well. Does the DSA tag follow them to their next school, essentially allowing them to not count against the 34 man roster?
If that's the case, I don't see why Will Davis wouldn't have just DSA'd everyone on Lamar's team as a favor to them on his way out.
Posted on 6/4/26 at 4:21 pm to ProjectP2294
My understanding DSA was only 2025 incoming freshman and last year players cut/would be cut due to roster limits. And it follows the player for his entire career wherever. Pretty sure the DSA thing doesn't apply anymore if you weren’t a designated student athlete already last year. I’ve heard of schools last year DSA all their incoming freshman because they could. You could have been tagged a DSA and not actually get cut to protect from being cut .
