LSU Baseball Recruiting & Jay Johnson follow Rett Johnson, despite not being recruited by us out of High School

Knee jerk and uninformed opinion. Ty Waid = Tanner Reaves (offense only).

Mercer left out (which is insane).

My eyes turn to Braydon Kersey .325/.438/.684, 21 HR

From Alpharetta, will be hard to beat UGA and GT should he enter

He’s bigger bodied, so more of a chance for the power to translate, but I don’t disagree with the general feeling that any “utility” guy from a Texas JUCO is Reaves until they prove they aren’t.

Mind you it's been 30 Years, but Brandon Larson went to a Texas JUCO, and he turned out unfreakinbelievable.

I mean the positionless guys. Granted, Larson wasn’t really known for his defense, but he was good enough defensively to stand at short all year.

Catchers, shortstops, and CFs aren’t really what I’m comparing to Reaves. Even a guy like champagne, who has played 3B, C, and SS. But he reminds me more of Frey than anyone else, except he hits LH.

You're on obviously very correct positionless players are mostly choices for DH or a Corner Outfield position.

Love to see that. Would like Jay to wait until he's officially announced his intentions to enter the portal before he follows so we don't end up with a Maui Ahuna situation

Haha if Jay is after a player who isn’t in the portal, I guarantee you it doesn’t happen through X DMs.

Tennessee got popped for that, but Ahuna reached out to them first, through Kolten Wong who was on the Brewers with Brett Anderson, Franks son.

Arkansas was actually the ones proactively recruiting him before he was in the portal. The Tennessee thing wasn’t even a portal timeline issue, it was a transcript issue.

But Tim Corbin is a bitch for the whole thing.

lol I know. I'd just rather him use normal back channels. Don't need any undue attention.

It is kind of a slap your dick on the table move to just follow the player on twitter.

Realizing this isn’t any kind of profound thought - but after what we just went through it’s hard to get too excited about anyone that isn’t on mlb draft lists for 27 or 28, highly regarded enough to be involved with team USA, or put up numbers in the SEC/ACC or another top conference. PTSD from good numbers at low/mid majors without previously mentioned credentials.

I mean you’re not wrong and I don’t think it’s lost on Jay that White, Dickinson and Eyanson were a cut above Yorke, Dardar and Simpson.

That's why relying too much on the portal year in year out is not a sound strategy IMO. Although there will be better players entering than what is in so far. Especially after a bunch more teams seasons end this weekend.

I think he will do okay there. I think it's a harder job in the Big 12 than it was in the other conferences they were in.

He's made his bones the last couple years taking a lot of upperclassman portal guys and just having an older team. I don't know if the same roster building strategy is going to work at Houston. But they should be able to do fine living off a small HS class and a lot of JUCO guys.
