Spotrac isn’t fully updated, and these are my calculations so very subject to human error… but by my math, the only 2 other top 10 round selections noted as unsigned from Spotrac’s info (Peterson 1st and Lewis 4th) were announced yesterday as true full slot signings, so their remaining pool for Schmidt is unchanged. With the 5% overage ($403,352), the max the Guardians would be able to pay with their remaining pool ($1,236,660) is $1,640,012 before they are penalized by losing a draft pick in next year’s draft. Even tho that’s more than Schmidt’s slot of $1,598,900, he was always considered a massive overslot signing. $41,000 overslot is pennies. Certainly interesting and way less than his rumored number. There’s seemingly some smoke here.

That’d make some sense given he just turned 18 2 days ago so he’d need to be in a 4Y college for 3 full years before draft eligible (unlike what that AI slop said). What a massive gaff by Cleveland if that happened.

That just means he was literally, under any circumstances, coming to LSU.

He didn’t say likely. The article said he’s considering it. Like I said, not getting my hopes up, because he has options, but the whole thing is fluid.

I knew Evans signed but I missed that it was for $300,000. Seems quite a bit short sided, but then again this is inherently subjective. He must have really wanted to start his pro career.

I wonder if there's a world in which Schmidt goes JUCO but remains a commit and then isn't offered what he wants again next year and comes to LSU when he can actually get a rotation spot.

How many signees have we lost for 300k? I feel like this might be the first one I’ve seen in atleast a decade

If he goes JUCO, you could write off him playing here.
1) if he goes JUCO it’s because he has no intent on playing 3 years
2) the staff certainly won’t waste their time pursuing him or factoring him into future plans.

That's not what the story says.
It says he's considering JUCO. Right now, all three options are on the table. I expect to learn more tomorrow with Monday's deadline approaching.

Evans is a 6’3” LHP with a mid 90s FB and 2 plus breaking balls out of high school. He needs to work on his control, but that’s expected with prep prospects. There’s a reason he was highly ranked across all major scouting services. He had a spot if he wanted it lol
