re: Destin area golf

Just circling back to this.

We played three rounds--Kelly Plantation, Windswept Dunes and Regatta Bay.

All three were very healthy and very playable. Kelly and Regatta have quicker greens. Windswept's are slow but very, very puttable. It just took me some time to figure out lag putting and chipping on them.

Would absolutely go back and play all three next week.

It's odd to me just how bad Regatta was three years ago and how bad Windswept was last year. I always enjoyed both layouts, but putting on beat up greens is no fun.

Thank you all for you input over the last month.

Back to reality tomorrow.

Destin area golf

Folks, my family is headed to the beach at the end of the month. My dad and I will get away for a couple of rounds. I know the course scene pretty well. We've been going down to that area for 20 years.

The last two times we've gone down, we've played a familiar course with horrendous greens at the time. Regatta Bay's were borderline unplayable in 2023, and Windswept Dunes were awful last summer. I've played both in very good condition over the years which made both surprising.

I'm looking for perspective from folks that have played in Destin over the last 6 weeks or so if possible. Anywhere we should avoid? I'm looking at:

Kelly Plantation
Regatta Bay
Raven
Windswept Dunes
Emerald Bay

It doesn't have to be Augusta, but we don't want to be playing Plinko from 8 feet.
Technically I'm only solely responsible for five of the losses. I wasn't in Oxford. But I'll wear those five.

Thank you for your understanding.

Probably a bad time to talk about next weekend's broadcasts from Starkville

Mack committed to Tennessee while Vitello was able to put more time and effort into recruiting him and LSU was winning the college world series. The same could be said for Aiden Robbins and Texas

If you say so.

Not what I’m told.
Aiden Robbins and Landon Mack visited…Mack was in Baton Rouge for the Super…

Hey! I did ok in Omaha!

The guys at D1 really, really care about a sport very few do. We happen to, and the vitriol headed their way because of the streams the last couple of years is a little disappointing to me.

Kendall, Aaron, Joe, Mark and the whole crew do an awesome job in my experience as a subscriber, reader and listener. There isn't another national outlet coming close to them as far as coverage goes.
You’re using words like “scared” and “coward”. I just suggested Ole Miss might be weakened by having a RS Fr QB in the biggest game of his life in Week 3 as opposed to the guy who beat LSU and Georgia last year on the way to the Final Four.

It had literally nothing to do with LSU’s roster.

I never said LSU couldn’t win. It was a completely innocuous sentence in a segment about Chambliss’s legal process.

I'm always fascinated by what people hear and how they react to it.

Well dang, that response actually makes me like and respect you.

Well that’s good! I see you alluded to the Top 8 tweet from June. That was easily the most puzzling response to anything I’ve ever gotten. The tweet literally said I felt good about LSU’s spot. I didn’t want them to lose to A&M in Hoover, drop out of the top 8 in RPI while Oregon, Ole Miss and a few teams had baseball to play.

People somehow read “Hunt says we aren’t getting a Top 8”. Which was simply never the case. Can’t control what people decide to pay attention to, I suppose.
A few things.

First, I always appreciate the kind words here. And I appreciate those who listen.

I try to be as transparent as I can. When I know something, I’ll say it. When I’m talking about a rumor, I clarify. Like today I said I wasn’t clear on Charlie Weis Jr.’s contract at LSU…because I’m not. It would be easy for me to say “lol, Ole Miss, that’s dude’s never coming back!!” And that would play to an LSU audience, but I don’t know it to be true.

I consume A TON of audio content, and a lot of it comes from people in my position who love the school or team they cover whether they admit it or not. I’m turned off by false confidence. So I try to avoid it.

I’m aware that I’m not the smoothest on air. I’m not the funniest guy. But I’m prepared, passionate and try to be transparent. That’s all I can really be.

I’m better than I was when I started. And I try my hardest to avoid “uhhs” and empty words. It’s 10 hours a week which is a lot.

Just thought I’d jump in. Thank y’all again for listening/reading!
Guidry was great tonight. I think he was throwing a little straight change to go with the breaking ball. But he struck out Milam, Curiel and Brown on sliders.

I also love watching Zach Yorke hit. He punched a single to the opposite field gap tonight. Was a gorgeous swing.

Great to watch some baseball after the absurdity of the last 12 days.

Questions for the Coach: SPECIFICALLY-where’s the breakdown occurring on the offensive line? Why aren’t these players unable to protect your franchise QB for more than 1.5 seconds and why aren’t these players able to provide push for a running play, especially inside the 5 yard line? We’re 8 weeks in. SPECIFICALLY-why have you not substituted MVB into the game when Nuss was clearly struggling passing and was under extreme pressure almost every snap. Nuss is not a running threat. SPECIFICALLY-what’s going on with your WR rotation? Too much talent at that position to have that little production from Brown, Hilton, Anderson. -Also Coach Kelly, would you consider making a coaching change mid-season in an effort to save a season before it’s too late?

He’s talked about right tackle and said they want to stick with Davis on potential.

He’s said he’s not going to take Nuss out of the game.

He’s said the WR rotation is tightening.

He has not been asked about midseason coaching changes.

A lot of this has been addressed. It goes back to my original point that even if he said:

“Yes, we’re awful on the offensive line. I screwed up not going to Van Buren in short yardage. That’s something we’re going to look at this week. At WR, we have to go with Anderson, Thomas, Brown and Green. They’re playing the best. And I’m firing three offensive assistants.”

Would that make yall think, “ok, he’s got it figured out.”?

I contend it’s just barstool conversation….which is fine.

But no one really cares about press conferences unless things are bad. And at that point you don’t really care about the press conference. You just care that things are bad.
Sure. You just have to convinced mega millionaires to spend $65 million buying out a staff and. $90 million on the new one. And $20 million annually on every roster.

I can’t pretend to know what those conversations sound like.
You think reporters need a “killer instinct” when it comes to a football game?

I think we just have a fundamental disagreement on responsibilities.
I’ve covered LSU for 15 years and don’t recall a single media member losing credentials for asking questions in a press conference.

I’ve been very open on my show that you aren’t going to get “Fire the Coach” from me because I get a check from LSU during football season. I will criticize, and have, when I feel it’s warranted. Not going to call for jobs.

Matt roasted Orgeron for years. Never lost a credential.

I push back on the notion that it’s the media’s job to skewer a coach when his team is losing. The truth of the matter is that no one really cares about press conferences. It’s about wins and losses.

What question and subsequent answer would make yall feel better about the program?

Pretty sure he was looking for me there.

I do appreciate all the constructive criticism in the thread, though!

I got my fantasy football name from TD last year. This may make the cut this year.
This thread is giving me chills. Yall be safe traveling.

I’ve been a little underwhelmed with the LSU presence so far. That will change tomorrow.

I’m about 45 to 50 minutes later than the fan because of my postgame stuff, but I haven’t had any issues.
