Take a haircut on your bonus number, make a measly minor league salary and live a boring & crappy life, while grinding to a big league contract.
Go JUCO, pitch against tomato cans, and maybe get your bonus number sooner rather than later.
Come here, make some NIL, start a degree, pitch against future pros wile playing with future pros, win a natty, and develop into a quicker path to a big league contract.
The floor and ceiling seem so much higher coming to campus than the other 2 options.

Is pitching 1 season at a top JUCO going to get you that big signing bonus in next year’s draft? Are JUCOs held in that regard? And this isn’t sarcasm, asking for real.

Misiorowski got close to 2.5MM but that was after two years.
Logan Henderson only got about $500k after 1 juco year.
Misiorowski was more well known out of high school than Henderson was.
The Brewers drafted both of them. They’re the best at scouting JUCOs and one of the best at getting good, signable high schoolers later in drafts.
ETA: which means the brewers probably lean on their actual scouts more than a lot of other clubs.

And Misiorowski really had his stock impacted at the combine where his raw stuff blew everyone out of the water. Since Schmidt has mostly 55 grade type pitches, I feel like there will be some actual stock put into his performance

Thank y’all! I was very curious as to how much MLB scouting was put into JUCO. Obviously, teams would keep an eye on Schmidt, but didn’t know if that would still produce the bonus number he wants.

Curiel goes for 74% underslot
I know Malachi Washington reaffirmed to LSU but the Pirates still have some money to play with due to Curiel underslot

He would have to come off his number by a lot for this to even remotely be a possibility

According to Spotrac the Pirates have $61k left with 13/21 picks still to sign including their 5th rounder with a $500k+ slot.
With the 5% bonus they could offer maybe $900k signing no other picks. Highly unlikely but weird shite has happened before.

They can offer $1.3mil according to Twitter, without losing future picks

that isn’t correct…They can offer him 1,022,965 without losing a pick and penalties

After what JJ did with crews, Curiel, and Brown, I don’t know why any top rated outfielder would move off their number

Derick did sign underslot, but It's not that much underslot. I mean 6.2M is not bad at all. Here's a qoute from Jim Callis:
No. 5 overall pick Derek Curiel signs w/@Pirates for $6.2 million (slot value = $8,336,500). @LSUbaseball OF, one of best pure hitters in @MLBDraft, solid runner & center fielder as well.

You are the #5 pick in the draft and you have all the leverage in the world you do not take 2 mill under slot. Maybe you take 500K under slot but not 2 mill. Don't know what their thinking was accepting 2 mill less. Maybe a deal under the table that we don't know about would be my guess for the 2 mill under slot. Maybe they buy his family a new home who knows.

Info isn’t mine. I read it on Twitter from a guy with a substack dedicated to mlb payroll.

the first 2 picks in last year draft both took over 2.5M+ under slot deals
