You'd still get the best of the best, but you would get fewer of them. Yes Connor Griffin would have started here. He was also a starter in MLB at 19 years old. It already takes someone pretty special to start at LSU as a freshman, but if the talent pool was deeper, that would be even more difficult since the quality of players is higher. Those top tier guys are going to go where they can start immediately so they can be drafted as soon as possible. It would make recruiting freshman more difficult for the top programs.

Right. At minimum, the depth chart will be an actual topic and selling point for high school kids, just like any other sport. I’m not saying lsu won’t land top recruits, or fall behind other schools. I’m just saying that kids are going to want to know what the path to playing time looks like and will factor that into their decision. Guys like Weinstein and Murphy had the draft as plan A and college as a distant plan B. They signed with the biggest brand in the sport and a month before school starts, plan B becomes reality and they quickly go back to the drawing board. You’ll have plenty of guys like that with the rule change, they will just make those decisions much earlier in the process.

Eastbank Little League 12U Majors open up state tonight against Opelousas. These are kids that are mostly going into 7th grade. They return a handful of kids that made some noise on this team last year as 11 year olds but fell short of Williamsport. They went 5-1 on an exhibition tour in Texas against perennial powers Lamar, Pearland, and Bridge City then swept a district that included a strong Ascension Parish team. I'd imagine they win state and have another good shot at Williamsport. The game will be on Youtube at 6. ETA: They should destroy this Opelousas team. Ascension may be the threat in regionals again.

The 13U team starts regionals on Sunday in Sugarland against New Mexico They should be a solid group, too.

If nobody cares, cool. I enjoy watching kids develop over the years. Some are studs but don't grow. Some are pretty good then hit a growth spurt. Some just flat outwork everyone. I've watched Dom Pellegrin since his days in park ball, and he was one that just flat outworked everyone. Everybody was getting better and getting bigger, but he kept his nose down on the grindstone. Girard had a 12U team that was incredible, maybe won the World Series, and many of those kids are now playing varsity high school ball (mainly Jesuit). Cleary's 12U team has some dudes this year and will be in the World Series next week.

22-0 Eastbank wins

ETA: It was 1-0 after 1 inning. Lol. Eastbank scored 18 in the 2nd inning, then pretty much just ran into outs on purpose to get the game over in 3 innings. Opelousas sent 9 batters to the plate and all 9 struck out. Eastbank used 3 arms for 15 pitches or less. The threat for Eastbank still seems to be Ascension Parish but I think the region has 1 or 2 other decent teams.

The Opelousas area has had some surprisingly good talent emerge from that age group in the last 15 or so years, but the park that produced them is no longer viable and hasn’t been for a few years now

I cannot imagine what they put in makeshift unis to play today

Embarrassing can’t even come close to describing, I’m sure

They really couldn't even play pitch and catch with each other like alot of 8U teams can.

They are in their high school weight rooms getting stronger so they can all hit at least 1 HR at LSU.

Is a kid named Bobby Miller on that team? I saw him at a PG camp here in Houston. He was probably 6’1 at 12 and throwing mid 70s. Was wearing a Newman jersey before he got his PG jersey

Who will hit more homers in their LSU career

Omar Serna, Dominic Santarelli, or Koa Romero

He isn't. Big kid, throws it pretty good. He plays for Carrollton Select. I don't think he plays Little League.

ETA: They had a kid in Baton Rouge throwing low to mid 80s in 12U. An absolute unit. Played for Pelicans, going to Catholic I believe. Jacob Eason.

Former Tiger Aiden Moffett traded to the AAA’s for Aaron Civale. Stats on the year between the Complex League and single A for Moffett: 22.1 IP, 25 K’s, 24 earned runs, 42 BB’s. Not much has changed.

Javen Coleman may be the next guy up. Doing really well in AA with the blue jays coming out of the pen

The Sleeper: LHP Javen Coleman – Toronto Blue Jays
Coleman played a pivotal role as a bullpen piece for the Tigers from 2021-2024.

Since being picked up by the Blue Jays, he's been able to climb through the farm system and is now flourishing in Double-A with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

In 18 appearances, Coleman has compiled a 1-1 record with a solid 2.88 ERA. He has improved his control significantly since being at LSU, which has shown during his short stint in Double-A with a 37-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

If Coleman continues to succeed in a relief or closer-type role, he could find himself earning a call-up and fighting for an opportunity to reach the MLB, especially with the Blue Jays lacking left-handed options in their bullpen.

The Texas native is listed as the Blue Jays' No. 22 overall prospect.
