Without doing any research whatsoever, I've considered him a good mentor for left handed pitchers. I believe he has had some good overall pitching staffs, but LHP has been the biggest plus in his career as far as I know. I've always been kind of in the middle of "he's good" and "he's kind of okay", but he has almost always seemed to tilt towards "he's good" at least for a season or 2.
I know some will do a ton of research for you, or maybe you've already done it, but that's my perspective. I'm not one to argue either way.

Yeskie has a track record of success that you can’t argue with
It comes down to execution and some of the pitch sequencing is hard to master for college arms who for the most part are still in a development type phase
Once Anderson mastered it he was lights out
Even eyanson struggled until midway of sec play when he took off
Other pitchers take longer to develop and might not ever max out while still in college

You pretty much identified what I suspect. Yeskie seems good at calling games for high end pitching, but seems to struggle on the development side in part because he asks other guys to do things they can’t.

Armstrong still looks like I could hit his stuff over the batting cages at Mike Miley. Lester will like that. Good pod with Doyle, though.

I will try to remember what I can from Doyle.
Logan Schmidt- Doyle thinks he can get 2.5 million. Will he settle for that?
Hirschkorn likely goes pro but there is a chance to getting one of Hirschkorn or Sides. He believes Sides is a better chance to campus but it could reverse.
Washington mostly goes pro but he does have a chance to make it to campus.
Davis- Twitchy and big arm.
Murphy- Elite defensive tools and some power. He does with trouble hitting off speed that make him a little chance to get to campus
Santarelli= Rare build. Unlikely getting it to campus but not impossible
Nawrocki- LSU will make it a priority. I don't know if that means some NIL incentive to get to campus. I wouldn't get your hopes up though.
Sides- First rounder talent that could make it to campus.
Loew has some power but doesn't see him at SS
Evans is a draft risk.
Roberson could be a diamond in the rough. I agree and I believe DRock mentioned about him as well. Dealt with back injury last year that dropped him down the draft
Minattee slipping down some on the draft board.
Stringer- All of his pitchers are from the same angle and needs a little more work but high potential
Tucker average arm project at 3B. Should make it to campus
Beaty throws a lots of strikes
Cupit small risk draft but should make it to campus
Brown tested well at the combine. He could go in first round or he wouldn't falls out of 2nd.
Landon Hood has elite changeup. Future star.
Wachs does everything well, see if it translates to SEC
Armstrong talk about Park at SS, Milam at 3B is besically getting from Doyle.
Doyle clarified Milam will play at SS but believes Park has a higher ceiling for his pro career. I wouln't disagree with that.

I think Yeskie tries to get every pitcher to their max pro potential from every perspective-- mechanics, pitches, pitch calling, etc. You see what happens when it comes to fruition-- Anderson, Eyanson, pretty much Shores and Junp by the end... The problem is such a small percentage of guys are going to reach that level. It kinda doesn't completely align with winning as many games as possible for LSU. Some of these guys would probably have more college success just sticking with their natural mechanics, not adding a 3rd or 4th pitch, not having to throw every pitch on the edge of the plate. I'm not sure turning every pitcher into an MLB pitcher should be the goal for all of them because there's no real room for a middle ground. It's either become that or fail. We need more room for success at a lower bar than that.

MLB.com released their final rankings.
Looks like most guys slid down or stayed in the same area. Notably, the OF commits, Santarelli, Nawrocki and Schmidt slid the most. Evans, Brady and Stringer are 3 that moved up the most. Stringer has gotten some extra buzz recently, and the interview you noted mentioned Evans as a risk now, so I’m guessing scouts are talking those guys up a ton.
I hate that I like to follow the draft so much. So many guys you could start talking yourself into thinking they will make it to campus, then you get a gut punch on draft day.

Contrast that with Wes Johnson and Guidry. Wes identified Guidry's slider as like his only effective pitch his freshman year. So he asked him to throw it what seemed like 60-70% of the time. He had a lot of success doing that.
I was amazed that he was effective throwing it over and over again even after everybody in the park knew the slider was coming.
Clearly Wes wasn't concerned with how well he was preparing Guidry for a pro career at that time.

So there is a potential for boom or bust season’s under Yeskie? When we’ve gotten combos of Skenes/Floyd, Hollman/Jump, and Anderson/Eyanson it makes sense to have a high ceiling approach. I guess it’s pretty easy to have a knee jerk reaction to last year’s pitching but Jay has done well with what we had all other years.

Unbelievable. I guess Jay thinks the pitching staff will be fine. They've obviously dropped massive bags on this portal class.

He’s clearly not letting what happened last year bite him in the butt. I think the Doyle guy mentioned we were really fighting for a couple of HS pitchers so maybe out of our focus can go there now.

2027 is going to be a special year boys!

This is almost unbelievable at this point

are we gonna be able to get all of the freshman that are projected to come to campus here?
i could see guys being told to look elsewhere

I had heard that we were pushing hard for him. We’ve definitely covered our bases as far as position players to have enough options.
Posted on 7/3/26 at 7:11 pm to TigerCub
I gotta think this means Jay feels less confident in some of the other HS OFs making it
