Wonder if that's the knee jerk addition to losing Paz.
Waiting on a LHP
Although if Schmidt gets to campus I'd be ok with that
Although with Aase able to pitvh next season that alone replaces Primeaux, but seems like we lose Garcia and maybe Plog as well depending how the draft unfolds. We obviously have a lefty loaded class, just figured we'd want to add 1 lefty portal arm thats solid
Just would like a decent lefty on the roster for next season

Didn’t even have him in the radar
Am I looking at stats right 17 HBP and 25 walks in 46.2 innings

Sometimes yeskie just can't help but get himself a project

I don't think we pass on a lefty that we like, especially one that can extend, but I think the staff is in pretty good shape now. Schmidt, Evans, Moore, Hood, Velazquez, and Smith are all capable of extending or being a shutout down reliever. They're all RH though.
Smith and Velazquez's ERAs are inflated from just a few tough outings, but they both have good K/BB numbers and were able to extend well when needed.

That's correct but he also struck out 52. He had some bad outings.
ETA: I think maybe I view him as a more electric Gavin Guidry.

Bio from USF website
quote:
Smith emerged as a key arm in the Bulls’ rotation in his first season with the program, making eight starts among his 16 appearances. He was named the American Conference Pitcher of the Week on April 20. Smith went 4-3 on the year with a 4.24 ERA across 46.2 innings. He was one of the team's most prolific strikeout pitchers, fanning 52 batters at a rate of 10.0 per nine innings. He held opposing batters to a .232 average. Smith showed a strong ability to work out of the stretch, limiting batters with runners on base to a .247 average. He was one of the team's most reliable starters down the stretch.

Yeskie hasn’t proven he can elevate these types of projects to me. Hope it works out.
