Wonder if that's the knee jerk addition to losing Paz.
Waiting on a LHP
Although if Schmidt gets to campus I'd be ok with that
Although with Aase able to pitvh next season that alone replaces Primeaux, but seems like we lose Garcia and maybe Plog as well depending how the draft unfolds. We obviously have a lefty loaded class, just figured we'd want to add 1 lefty portal arm thats solid

I don't think we pass on a lefty that we like, especially one that can extend, but I think the staff is in pretty good shape now. Schmidt, Evans, Moore, Hood, Velazquez, and Smith are all capable of extending or being a shutout down reliever. They're all RH though.
Smith and Velazquez's ERAs are inflated from just a few tough outings, but they both have good K/BB numbers and were able to extend well when needed.

That's correct but he also struck out 52. He had some bad outings.
ETA: I think maybe I view him as a more electric Gavin Guidry.

Every player on the roster can’t be an expensive, plug and play all SEC guy.
Fontenot, Dorsey, Benge, Ulloa, Cooper, Collins.
Some work out better than others. But honestly, the same can be said for guys we paid for. Loer comes to mind.

I put this in the other thread, but it will probably fit better here:
In 2026 he had a lower WHIP against lefties than righties. So there is a little bit of reverse split stuff going on to cover for our lack of lefties.
He also had a vastly lower walk rate with guys on base. 2.66 BB/9 with runners on base vs 6.65 BB/9 with bases empty.
His highest K/9 split was with RISP, 10.59 K/9.
His WHIP with runners on was 1.224, with RISP it was 1.242, both good numbers.

So he pitches well in the clutch and during high leverage situations which is nice but 6.65BB/9 w/bases empty is relatively high. Still not sure how I feel about him but I have to guess its because Paz jumped ship.

There is also a connection there that Josh Simpson would have been on staff at Georgia for one of the years his brother was pitching there.

I think that about covers every question anybody might have outside level of competition.
