Kurland feels like he could be a real surprise. he was coming off shoulder surgery and idk how much that affected him but as a freshmen he hit .290 with 17 HR and that 2023 Florida team.
Damn that’s a hell of a pickup.

The thing i love most about Jay is how pissed he gets from losing.

In the scheme of things, Milam is a bigger deal than Watters.

I’m wondering what yall think the draft stock is for a career .279 college hitter that doesn’t play a premium position
If he desperately wants to play pro ball, so be it. But it’s not like he’s about tone enticed by a bunch of money lol
Good call. It just seemed like he potentially was desperate to go pro. I saw a couple of different recent interviews with him saying he was ready to go pro.
Even in the tweet about his transfer he referenced going pro as his reason which I didn't understand. Then I saw multiple people like Palmer saying the draft could be a major factor.
I agree with you though. Just didn't want to get too excited. This all is looking great.

Just for fun talk I would like to know opinions on where Milam would rank if he was on the list of current transfer portal players list if he was in the portal. I would like know if these rankings value potential pro projections or established college career and impact more. I assume he would be right there at the very top.

Milam is the key of what Jay wants to prioritize this off-season. Excellent defense and attack the zone by pitchers.

Trey Hawsey (La Tech 1B) to Ole Miss

I’m watching Michigan LHP Shane Brinham closely. Has followed Jordan, Braun, and Milam recently. He also just followed Jonah Aase. Brinham is from Vancouver in Canada. Aase is from NW Washington and their hometowns are 45 miles apart. Could be something. Could be nothing…but I’m watching.

Are any of the incoming freshmen OF known for elite defense at CF? Seems like you could sacrifice some offense for elite D out there with what our infield is about to look like.

All 4 guys listed as OF can play CF. Roberson and Murphy I believe are specifically noted for their gloves. But Davis and Washington can also play there.

I hope we make a push on him.
I seriously hope Jay makes a big push for him.

The older I get the more I try to temper my expectations when it comes to almost everything in life but it’s getting hard to not be really excited about next years team. Snag a couple more pitchers who can throw strikes and we will be in for some fun

I identify with this so much
When I was younger, I would be very invested in college football recruiting and it became such a toxic interest. I completely withdrew from it about a decade before the portal/NIL era.
With that said, there’s only 1 thread I ever follow annually and it’s this LSU baseball recruitment/portal/draft thread in the summer months. It gets the baseball juices flowing. Reminds me of the feeling I’d have when I was younger being excited about getting a HS football commit which is next to meaningless these days.

Hasn’t LSU had players withdraw before?
I welcome anyone to say when it has happened, but I cannot recall any draft-eligible LSU baseball player with eligibility remaining that has “withdrawn” from the MLB draft prior to the draft and announced commitment to return to school. What I can remember is that applying only to signees incoming from the high school level. Historically, the draft was an unknown as to when you’d be selected. In more recent years, the draft has been about “agreeing to a number” for players getting selected in rounds 1-10 and “fliers” taken in rounds 11-20 for teams to work excess slot savings on players with numbers that may later get in range. In both the historical or more recent frameworks, the decision to return to school was all based upon conversations with MLB teams that would typically happen hours before the draft, during the draft, or after the draft.
Again, someone please feel free to correct me if I’m missing something.
I think this is a product of the new era we live in. A combination of (1) the new post-COVID MLB draft format, and (2) college’s ability to legally “pay” players to return to school.
