Sounded a little irritated that a couple of the kids didn’t have the sense to wait for us to win another natty before making a decision.
We'll still end up with a great class, but it hurt us in '23 and will hurt is again in '25.

1.70 career WHIP. Yikes.
Touched 100 in the Cape the other day, power conference starting experience.
You need a mix of stuff guys and pitchability guys. Pitchability gives you floor. Stuff gives you ceiling. This guy has a very high ceiling.
Now, this feels like a Texas Tampering situation, but if it's a true portal situation I hope we make a play for him.

Are there specific reasons for why the portal opens when it does? Common sense would say it shouldn't open until the Friday after Omaha to allow the two finalists to get home, the winning team to have their celebration, and then get back on the road on the weekend.
Honestly, it'd be better if it didn't open until after the draft for both teams and players.

Maybe they are doing this. Do you have more parody amongst the teams..
Just like the NFL.. The bad teams get the easiest schedule the following year

Agreed. The timing of it makes it really difficult given the cws and draft uncertainty

College baseball has always been butt backwards. Hell, the draft used to be during regionals.

If we are on him with a do not contact tag, then I like our chances

We are indeed on Volchko now along with Cooper Torres and Tanner Thatch

It's now officially become "waiting for Jay to drop a tiger emoji" season.
Be interesting to see if they have anyone in for visits tonight.

i would actually disagree with that knowing how johnson is. he just doesn't make the same mistake twice. i think he saw the disadvantage it was in 23 and came up with a plan of not letting it happen again. maybe by having a deeper roster and being able to keep the majority of those guys and only having to fill a limited number of spots and saving those spots for people that you can't pass up on. he doesn't strike me as a coach who will get beat the same way twice. always prepared.

I agree in a way, like he always has a plan and I'm sure he delegated plenty of staffers on portal stuff to assist while doing prep in Omaha, but he already said they lost a player to another school because Jay couldn't meet with them until after the CWS finals.
There is just no way around it, if you are in Omaha, you are going to be at a disadvantage to other teams. Now I think we have a good enough roster and there are some good enough players in the portal we can still come out okay. But I wonder how many players we lost out these past few weeks?
Not that I'm complaining

We are on Cole Russo a 1B with some C experience from Tampa.

idk I thjnk it’s not even Jay Johnson making a mistake.
You hear a lot of stories of guys going on recruiting visits and never leaving. And i’ve heard that story from
some players we got and some we missed.
Sometimes just being at home and being able to host a kid first
goes a long way

Am I the only one who thinks if he’s a starter then Stanfield stays in CF?
Honestly Stanfield doesn't always seem to get the best read off the bat, but he has enough speed that he usually makes up for it. I think Curiel is probably better at tracking balls, and he should be able to improve his arm in the off-season

Totally agree. Do have to say though...we took full advantage of the same situation in '22 and '24 missing out on the supers. So we've benefited some as well.

Moscona said the 2 Texas schools, Arkansas and Tennessee spent more than LSU on baseball NIL last year. He didn’t cite a source and sometimes I have a difficult time trusting stuff he says, but sounds good to me.

I don’t think he had a single AB in Omaha this year.
Josh Pearson had no at bats in the finals, but he started both games against Arkansas with the LH Root starting both games. He was 0-4 with a walk in the first Arky game and 1-3 and a walk in the second game against Arkansas. No appearance against UCLA.

We landed some good pieces after the 2023 title. Holman and Jump for starters. Problem was we had a lot more to replace after that season than we do this year.
