it would depend heavily on who goes in the draft including the incoming freshmen
you don’t really tell a guy who started every game on a championship team and was productive to look elsewhere or relegate him to pinch hitting
you may tell him he’s in LF because Curiel wants CF and that was the plan.
He hit .326/.420/.495 in SEC play and hit 14 doubles. you need someone really special to take one of thenOF spots.

quote:I could be wrong, but don't guys who go to the combine, and get certain rankings/medical clearance guarantee them like 80% of slot value? I could be making that up entirely.
No Zac Cowan in the top 600 seems ultra surprising
Frey seems a bit low at 204
If I'm Mayers, Ware, Stanfield seeing that and getting offers around those areas, I'd want to come back even with no leverage (if they arent getting offers $200k+)...granted Ware might still have leverage with screwy JUCO ruling
How does that impact guys like Stanfield, Frey, Jones, etc. that play in the CWS and can't attend? Seems pretty fricked? Also seems like something that could pretty easily be fixed by pushing it back a week.

Get the feeling that Fauske, Young, and Ebel are no shots.
LSU routinely gets recruits to skip the draft in this 60-150 range all the time. It was why I said in this thread a couple of days ago...this class is LOADED with round 2-3 type talents, but there's not any first round locks.
This is just a list from the last three years.
2022 Draft
Guidry 70
Neal 74
Noot 79
Kling 104
Shores 129
Jones 198
2023 Draft
Brown 93
Milam 105
2024 Draft
Schmidt 16
Curiel 115
Arrambide 117

BA updated their 500 today as well.
Name 7 (500)
Kade Anderson 4
Anthony Eyanson 35
Brady Ebel 42
Briggs McKenzie 46
Quentin Young 55
Daniel Dickinson 57
Jaden Fauske 65
Omar Serna 78
Chase Shores 88
Miguel Sime 90
William Patrick 97
Dean Moss 98
Landon Hodge 135
River Hamilton 171
Marcos Paz 175
Reagan Ricken 196
Jared Jones 202
Jack Ruckert 227
Chris Stanfield 296
Jacob Mayers 307
Ethan Frey 318
Ethan Clauss 322
Conner Ware 342
Zac Cowan 347
Mason Braun 361
Zion Theophilus 486
Most everyone is around where they were on the last one except for Hodge, Stanfield, and Frey. Hodge moved up about 250 spots. Stanfield and Frey are on the list for the first time.
Over the course of the draft rankings, Kade Anderson went from unranked on their first top 100, 93 on their second top 100, 97 on their top 200, 40 on their t1op 300, 2 on their top 400, 6 on their initial top 500, and 4 on the updated one. He's the top college player on the board.

Absolutely agree. I could easily see him being the LF. I am not in favor of replacing a guy in fear of who you might miss out on, because you don't know what you are really getting. It would have to be a can't miss guy with elite defense and more power at bat.

I have never seen a sport where so much off-season stuff happens while the season is still going.

A little bit different of a situation, but Pearson played a ton for 3 years and was a starter on the NC team in ‘23. I don’t think he had a single AB in Omaha this year. Jay isn’t going to have a blind allegiance to anyone. Stanfield is a good player, but has limitations. If Curiel does move to CF, I can see them rolling with someone else in the corners rather than stanfield.

The two Texas schools and Arkansas definitely spent more $$ in the portal than we did last year.
Georgia has to be spending a lot as well. Maybe I’m missing something but i can’t seem to think of why kids would want to go to that program over the other big programs in the SEC.
Is it possible we don’t spend as much in the portal because we spend a lot on high school kids? It’s hard to believe anyone outside of the Texas schools could ever outbid us.

Imagine if the draft was still during Regionals/Super regionals all meanwhile the portal was open.
Coaches would lose their minds

That would be a complete cluster-eff

Just responding to the post of Riedell's reported "LSU interest of guys" to include how hot we seem to be on them based off of twitter follows (usually the best indicator). These are complete guesses on my part based on the tea leaves. Not trying to cause panic or make any predictions, just posting what I see on social media.
Calloway
- Jordan follows
- seems to be a backup plan based on how long his process has been drawn out.
Mack
- Jordan follows
- Tutko follows
- seems to be a primary target based on some outside reporting
Loy
- Jordan follows
- word is he wants a guaranteed starting rotation spot, and I doubt we give that to him
Advincula
- Simpson follows
- he follows a couple more Tennessee people on twitter than I'd like to see
- seems like a primary target based on outside reporting.
Garcia
- no follows
A couple other names that Jay follows on twitter
- Dimartini
- Ure
I wonder what happened with Bailey, outside of a bag. He was the guy who followed every LSU account under the sun, then was seemingly the one who cancelled his LSU visit last minute. I now there's rumors of legal issues, but interesting nonetheless.

Pearson started 52 in 2024. He just didn’t build on 23 like Jay would have hoped.

Like I said, i’d someone is really good at that position maybe, but again you’re trying to replace one of the better hitters on our team. Who breaks into the OF rotation if Stanfield Brown and Curiel are back?

I have a very hard time believing Jay wouldn’t gladly welcome Stanfield back. Jay has said that he wants to build teams for Omaha so I don’t think him missing power is that big of a deal. I’d imagine curiel and brown hit more home runs next year so that would help offset Stansfield’s lack of power as well.

Is it safe to say that Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Texas, and Texas A&M are the top 6 spenders in whatever order? Is anyone else even close?

He started both games against Arkansas

The land the stadium is built on is owned by the VA. All VA property is supposed to go toward the benefit of our veterans. A judge ruled that the stadium doesn't do that, so they may lose access to it.
I can almost guarantee I have the facts incomplete, but that's the gist of it.
yep. I'm not sure if this applies to all land owned by the VA, but that particular property has deed restrictions. They got around it about 10 years ago b/c having a new lease b/t the VA and UCLA for use of the stadium. However, a more recent lawsuit challenged the legality of the lease. UCLA doubled the rent and gave up 2 of the 10 acres for temporary housing. The judge allowed UCLA to keep using it until this July 4th. I don't think a new agreement has been reached.
