Canaan Clayton entered the portal. Thought he pitched pretty well against us.

Boy he does. It's like he went completely gray overnight.

Off topic, but noticed Mic Paul was still dressed out with the team and celebrating on the field postgame. Seems like a great kid and teammate. Really hope he finds a good landing spot at his next school.

UNO head coach stepping down

I don't know anything about this, but someone on MSB said he put his hands on someone in the conference tourney and was forced to step down. No clue if it's true.

What I do know is Dean stepped down because UNO was extremely behind on his pay schedule, and I mean extremely. Something like $20k+. Then, PM tried to bring him on at USC, but he was unable to free up an on field spot because he was forced to keep the assistant who I believe was their interim last year, or director of player ops or something. Whoever they kept on to keep the roster together. That was a call made by the AD, and PM needed a pitching coach, so he added Rooney.

Any idea if Fontenot will return? He started to come on towards the end of the season.

Given the lack of usage, I'd be surprised.

Jay has always talked highly of him off the field. He’s never going to get PT here so I can see it being a mutual discussion that he needs to go and find playing time somewhere to need his career.

This has nothing to do with recruiting, but Murray State's head coach has one of the more unique routes to D1 head coach that I've seen. He was hired away from being an assistant at Walters State CC to being the head coach at Murray State.

JUCO HC to D1 assistant is pretty common, but I've never seen JUCO assistant to D1 head coach.

Former LSU infielder Austen Roellig is back in the portal after a season at Utah where he slashed .341/.391/.441 in 50 games, mostly at 3B I believe.

Actually he hired Jim Hendry's son (who was at Virginia) instead after Hendry called in a favor to PM. I'm pretty sure he had already offered Dean the job too.

Did either of them visit LSU this weekend? I though Mack may have, but not sure if we have had that confirmed.

Frederick just hit the portal yesterday.

He's a local and Tony really likes low slot guys. I think they have a chance to lock him up.

Mack may have visited, but we don't have reporters actually trying to report on this stuff like some other schools do, so who knows.

Yea it’d be nice if we could get some coverage of baseball recruiting visits. I can’t imagine they had nobody in for the supers

This is a little off the wall, but Tulane's HC is in the running for the job at San Diego State. The recruiting coordinator at Tulane played for Jay at Nevada and was on his staff at Arizona for a bit.

If we end up with a staff opening, I could see Justin Bridgman being a candidate, on the non-pitching side I mean.

Looks like Virginia is hiring Duke's coach, Pollard. You'd have to think Josh Jordan would be a candidate at Duke. Although I think he's at the point where he can be very selective about what job he chooses if he wants one.

That makes sense. PM had multiple connections to the Cubs from teammates at UNO who went on to coach and work in the front office there, Quade and Bush.

On a side note, Hendry's brother lived in Lafayette and practiced pediatric dentistry. Ran into PM at the 2016 WS at Wrigley and had a chance to visit with him. As nervous as he acted in the dugout during games, he said his most nervous moment ever was singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley after the '09 Championship
