The agents are also representing them on NIL deals. Which I would imagine plays into some of these guys withdrawing from the draft.
Agent gets them a deal they're comfortable with, advises them to shut it down so that they don't jeopardize that deal or get wandering eyes.
It makes the draft a little easier on the agent because it's one less player to babysit through the process. Builds credibility with the college staff, which is a rapidly growing business relationship.
It starts with the player clearly defining what they want. If they don't do that, it fricks up the agent, the coaches, the scouts, the front offices.

I don’t know the agent side of college baseball but we’ve definitely seen agents have a very significant impact on football recruiting dynamics post NIL. It’s almost entirely driven by what’s best for the agent. I’d imagine the same thing is happening to some degree in college baseball

I would argue that it’s pretty different circumstances. Baseball agents have been dealing with this same population of players for a long time. Now it’s just more open and they’re negotiating with new audiences. So it’s established agencies in a newish environment.
With football, they didn’t have agents before NIL, they had whatever under the table representatives you want to mention, uncles, mentors, etc.
Those guys were always only out for themselves, and now they’re the agents.
It’s kind of like states that had medical marjuana moving into full blown legalization vs states going full blown legalization without the previously established medical infrastructure.

Good points. It seems like there are far fewer cases (if at all) of players using a commitment to one school as a leverage play for another school.

You are definitely intimate with the process
And yes, the NIL side of it is in its infancy. Agents, players, and schools are really winging it
Then there's the coaches
LSU has a lot going for it, but nothing more important than Jay and how he handles it. Very impressive. He is as hands on as they come in any sport, or so I'm told directly

Finley Bates committed to Tennessee. I'm not sure if we were after him this cycle. He's a transfer from San Diego State. We evaluated him out of high school. His dad played in the majors.

But also $750k as a high school pick might represent the largest signing bonus offer they ever get.
is that always the case?
going to college is a bet on yourself that you’ll get better and make more.
obviously the issue now is how many of these kids take MLb deal because of the roster crunch.

It's not always the case, but the profile of player that MLB will target at the price range is far from being a sure thing.

I hadn't looked into Reddemann as much because I thought he was following the PC that left USD. But he looks like a stud.

Joe Doyle going on with Scona at 4:15. Someone else listen so we don't have to.

I wonder how many times Scona will refer to him as a scout

We are still recruiting Taylor, correct?
Posted on 7/10/25 at 3:36 pm to LSUFanMizeWay
All indications are that we are. Per T14 on another site, we apparently may have 1 or 2 arms that are in the boat and just have not announced yet.
So I would guess 1 or 2 out of Taylor, DeCremer, Moore and Reddemann.
Moore likely wouldn't announce until after draft.
