I'm interested to see how many names are lopped off the list by next Tuesday.

One thing that has changed with the draft is that it's only two days instead of three. So previously they would do the first couple rounds and then start back up the next day, allowing the clubs to regroup and make more calls, and make some big offers on the second day.

The break happens later, so we may not see as many of those types of big 3rd round deals that have burned us in the past (Blayne Enlow being the most prominent example).

That situation is still in play. He was a late pick, 17th round. And it came down to other guys signing/not signing.

ETA: But there are only like 2 weeks to sign guys now. I think when Young was drafted it was still like 6 weeks or two months.

Which limits that a little bit.

Mayers stat lines are always magical

2.1 IP 1 H 5BB 0 ER

oh because he struck out 5

if you count fly outs and ground outs, you are more likely to walk or get hit by a pitch than out the bat on the ball in any kind of way.

I wanted the JJ Cooper part, it just also included what he responded to.

JJ Cooper knows more about the rules and history of the draft than anyone else in the industry. I needed to source my statement that there is a formal process to remove ones name from the draft.

Before it starts. And it's not all that common, but moreso each year.

I would argue that the vast majority of guys being drafted in spot that would get them $750k as a high school would be better off taking the money.

It's not great as a college baseball fan, but there are so many more things that can happen that make that number go down over two or three years and only limited spot that will make that number go up.

Wouldn’t it also be better for the agent? I’m sure agents would prefer to cash out sooner than later. I’d imagine it also depends on what college those freshmen are going to. Outside of just bonus/nil money I’d imagine the networking you can do at a school like lsu is exponentially more valuable than what you’d get in the minors.

And overloading in the portal.

Ryan Black was on top 100 draft lists after his freshman and sophomore years at Texas-Arlington. He went to UGA and was a part time player and very unlikely to be drafted this year.

Sooner is better than later unless you're someone like Kade Anderson who only has to wait two years and can increase his bonus offer by like 150% or so. For the agent, I mean.

But also $750k as a high school pick might represent the largest signing bonus offer they ever get.

These kids really have to get an agent prior to their JR year in high school now.

I initially considered it ridiculous when it was first mentioned to me in regards to a personal interest, but the landscape now has changed so much.

They must get guidance from someone who has been navigating this recently ever-changing environment.

And said agent should probably represent players at every level. It's a lot to digest and way more things to consider than what is apparent

Gotta love Mayers. Can you strike out 3 before you walk 4? That's the objective. And he does almost every time...
