Perhaps this will still be addressed in the portal but I was wondering who the backup SS will be next year?

I would think we will be relying on an incoming freshman. There is currently no one on the roster that could play that position decently everyday. Maybe a couple that could make a spot start, but not someone that you really trust at that position
With roster numbers getting tight, I'd imagine we probably don't get one from the portal, unless we get a guy that's okay with moving to 3rd/2nd. Then if Milam would get hurt they would slide over

Is there any chance that Frey has arm/shoulder issues? I can't remember what the injury was that slowed him down last year.

It's been fixed for a year now.

But it was his throwing shoulder? Idk maybe that could be another reason that he isn't being ranked higher. If it was an injury to his throwing shoulder and he hasn't really shown his arm since the injury. FTR I still think he's gone even where he's currently being ranked. Just talking about why he's not going higher with his measurables

It was his throwing shoulder but I don't think he has any lingering issues.
Maybe further along in his career it could come back but by that time it wouldn't matter. Was the same deal Tommy White had and he came back throwing the ball fine.

Ruckert has a lot to clean up defensively to be an SEC shortstop. The bat will play somewhere.
I heard Arkansas is kicking the tires again on Larson.

Switching gears a little from the backup SS deal, I’m guessing we won’t know anything on Nate Taylor for a few weeks since he’s pitching in the Cape?

That just makes me a little nervous. I would feel better with a veteran glove even if his offense is a little weak. I'm sure Jay has given it more thought than me.

Hunt Palmer had a run down today of who he thinks is back vs gone. Link below. Sounds like he has some info and this is not just a guess:
Obviously Gone: Kade/Eyanson/Jones/Dickinson/Mayers/Shores
Likely Gone:
Frey
Stanfield
Toss Up:
Ware
Likely Back:
Cowan
Reaves
Noot
Primeaux
Hunt

I wonder when the NIL amounts will start taking a psychological toll on players that are receiving big checks but not performing up to expectations.
Regardless, Jay needs a raise.

I think DeCremer is close to being in the boat. The more I dig, the more I like that pickup. Oregon St not thrilled about losing that one and thought he would be a potential rotation piece.

DeCremer looks like a potential closer to me. Wipe out stuff but high effort delivery which I’m not convinced is suitable to start

I think there’s a ceiling on both sides but I can see the closer profile as well.

I hope either Frey, Stanfield, Larson, or a portal outfielder in the same realm are on the roster. I'm really hoping the conversation between Jay and Ashton was that if Frey and Stanfield both sign, come back and start in left field. It would be a mature approach. There would be no better place for him and no better player for us at that point.

If the floor for the rotation is Evans, Noot, Cowan, that's a pretty nice position to be in.

We know that, but is he there because he thinks one of Frey/Stanfield comes back? What if they don’t? Had to enter if they do, I bet he comes back if those two go pro.
