I shouldn’t do this to myself but I’m starting to get my hopes up for Cam Johnson. Keith Law rated him at #71 in his latest top 100. For a guy that, at one point, had first round aspirations in addition to all the talk of him being a project, maybe he comes to campus to try and prove himself

Johnson has every intention of signing

I still don't see him slipping very far. His floor is what happened to Michael Kennedy last season and he gets picked in the 4th and a team throws him 1 mil. His ceiling is more like Robby Snelling and he gets picked comp 1st and gets 3 mil.

Either way I am not confident in him getting to campus. Like someone else said, expect him to sign and if things go really south for him in negotiations for whatever reason and he gets to campus then that is a huge bonus for the class and you can be happy.

That’s a lot of hits given up damn. He is a Team USA guy though so there’s gotta be some stuff there.

I never thought Shores was coming, but more because of his ranking than anything. There was little to no info out there about him.

same...be extremely extremely happy if johnson makes it to campus. would be shocked though

same with landon the next year.

i still think Brown and Anderson end up being absolute studs for us by year 2.

I didn't either. I got caught up last year saying no way to Shores, so Im not going to do that with anyone this year.

Brady Neal was another one. He re-classified and i thought it was obvious that he did that to be able to get drafted sooner. Not come to college for 3 years.

The draft is a little different than it used to be.

I'll believe a LHP throwing 98 mph makes it to campus when I see it.

Not getting my hopes up on Johnson.

Difference is he is a power throwing LHP. He compares more to Snelling last season than Noot and Shores. Your point still stands to a certain extent though. There is a chance but that chance is extremely slim.

I still look back on last season rankings and draft and wonder how we made out so well.

I'm kind of that way too now. Except with Blake Mitchell.

He's gone.

If he were that much of a no-brainer as far as talent goes, he would be projected much higher.

Not that he isn’t rawly talented. But there is something there preventing that. Like, perhaps, they do not think he has a starter’s profile.

In the end nothing will change his mind if he wants to go pro. But he’s not exactly in a position where the money will make it a no-brainer, unless he has a sudden jump on draft day, which of course could be possible:

I think his MLB.com write up mentioned him struggling a little in the spring. Noot also wasn’t as dominant as people expected. Kind of what you selfishly hope with a guy trending down in the spring rather than catching helium to rise up the ranks.

I believe Cam Johnson was hurt recently. Since starting to throw again, he's bounced up and down a bit in the rankings.

He was hurt toward the end of his senior season and got shut down. When that happened he dropped a good bit. Then he threw really well in a Florida all star game and then again at the MLB combine and he climbed back up the rankings again. Interesting situation. With the injury and if that scared teams away. All it takes is 1 team and when you are his size, LH, and throwing mid to upper 90s someone will be there take you more than likely.

I guess my point is that he was trending down with the shut down at the end of his season and then once he threw in the all star game and combine he has recently been trending up more and more.
