Looking Way Ahead…Harlem Berry, St. Martins Episcopal (class of 2025)---NOW A COMMIT!

Just finished watching his true freshman highlights, worth a look. Best freshman highlights I’ve seen seen since McKnight. I can’t speak to level of competition so would be curious in board thoughts. This is his second year of playing football.
HUDL
Second in rushing in the state at St. Martin’s Episcopal.
7 games, 164 carries, 2036 yards. 12.4 ypc. 27 Touchdowns.

Sounds like your typical St. Martin's student.

He looks like DeAngelo Williams in his first year or so at University of Memphis (before he thickened up) where he just went off tackle, made cut to sideline, and outran everyone whether or not they had an angle

Lateral movement is amazing.

1A classification, kids play both ways as STM probably dresses out 30-35 kids. The district is pretty weak, no stand out football power schools. STM tuition is $25K/yr and big time college preparatory academics. If Berry’s grades are as good as his football talent, he likely is interested in attending Stanford, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern, Rice, etc… STM graduates annually attend these schools for college.

I’m baffled by the person who downvoted your post. You are spot on.
I’m an alum (old) but many of my classmates went to Ivy League schools.
This kid is NOT a typical STM athlete, however. If his grades are solid he probably won’t end up at an Ivy League because he’s smart enough to take the NIL money and worry about actual academics later…if he continues to develop these stats will only get better in that district.

Riverside??? West St John???? Last year Country Day was in it
Enjoy him while you have him St Martin’s… I saw that they had beaten West St John and wondered “how” but now I know
Just looked and they only lost to Riverside 45-38

Agree with lateral movement; his cuts in run number one are special.

Class of 86

FYI - there are 3-4 STM graduates that I know who live in Laffy. You probably know a few depending on your age.

Lol…yes. I know at least 2 other grads in my class who live here. I was ‘91.
So the football player who ended up at GA….oh this is driving me crazy. Wore #11 and played QB? I can see him but can’t remember his name.
And our best athlete was a female swimmer in the class behind mine. She’s got Olympic gold.
I stayed home at Tulane for 1 year and hated it. Ended up graduating from SLU…majored in “Delta House” as well.

Obviously level of competition is a concern so his camp work will be instrumental. We’ve taken 1A lineman who have made their tape destroying 180 pound cream puffs so a 1A RB is easily possible.
Definitely one to watch.

You were previously employed in the local market as the sports director ?
I swam for the Bolts and definitely remember Ashley Tappin - she was the real deal. Gerald Lewis, would have been around class of 89 ? I know he played basketball at SMU
Mark McGinnis (STM alum 86) ... shown here shaking hands with Nicky Hazard (Jesuit alum) in 1990.

None of those teams were actually good.
West John (1-6) regular season (made playoffs) 2 playoff wins against the same 1-10 team.
Riverside (3-5) Wins against WSJ, STM and Albany (1-8)
Country Day (6-3) beat the brakes off STM. Wins again WSJ, STM, Riverside, Thomas Jefferson (1-5) Jeff Rise (0-3).
I mean this is some terrible football.
Kid looks legit and should transfer to somewhere like Jesuit, Brother Martin or St Aug. Could grow athletically and still get a great education. If he’s that smart he could still get into any school in the country.

Yes. That’s me!
Gerald, Mark..I remember them all.
Kathleen Ford is another friend from your era.
I’m sure if we saw each other we’d look familiar. I mean we had 200 kids in the entire high school. Everybody knew everybody.

Fun fact…
Frank Gendusa is the head coach at St Martins.
The same coach that coached all 3 Manning brothers at Newman.

Small world. We did an all school play and I was in middle school at the time. That’s how I got to know her. Hope she is well!

He looks quick.
Not exactly elite competition be he covers ground. How big is he?

He just won state championships in the 100 and 200m.

was just looking at the State Championship results / times as Harlem ran a 11.00 (100M) and 22.12 (200M), not bad for a HS Freshman. Kid is very well spoken and will only get bigger, faster, stronger athletically.
Holy Cross has a 10th grader (Krosse Johnson) that absolutely crushed it and won the 100M with a 10.54, and 200M with a 21.07.
Dude from Jesuit threw the javelin 228'., runner-up was 184'.
