Riverside??? West St John???? Last year Country Day
All 3 of these are down from where they have been in the past few years.

Riverside is really struggling, West St. John is meh, and Country Day was breaking in a new coach.

With the way Newman is recruiting right now, I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up there in the future. These types of athletes don't stay at these schools (Country day, St. Martins, used to be Newman) for football anymore. Country Day had their freshman starting quarterback transfer to St. Aug to be a backup this past year.

A little bit of both in football, but it's bad in basketball. Newman got the largest grant a private school has gotten in the history of Louisiana to fund Randy's basketball roster. That's not a joke either.

They're doing it under the guise of funding the tuition of low income students. It's gotten so bad, Schools are threatening to stop scheduling newman (or already have all together) unless something is done by the LHSAA. No idea what they would even do.

A. WE ALREADY HAVE THE SPLIT

B. Basketball you play like a 30 game season. Teams get added and dropped from schedules all the time

C. Imagine the heads spinning when the LHSAA calls those schools and says “they’re doing it all by the book”

I'm saying teams are essentially protesting scheduling Newman because of how bad their recruiting has gotten.

So don’t play them. They’re not the first recruited up team in 2A.

Unless you have to in district and then that maybe is one game. It’s basketball. It’s not a safety issue like a football mismatch.

Of course they're not the first recurited up team in 2A. Country Day recruits, but I'm telling you, from first hand knowledge, what Randy is doing right now is overboard. It's Curtis level bad, but basketball is a whooooole different animal. There is one EYBL team from Louisiana. Randy coaches it. He's running an AAU program at Newman right now.

Teams from New Orleans that usually play them are pulling out of games.

Seen at least one holier than though Catholic school do it for years. And have a kid walk in over the weekend without even taking the admissions exam. Heard one Dad say they didn’t offer enough so turned them down and his son was an academic disaster. Imagine barely passing in remedial at a public school then getting decent grades at the private school.

I agree that Berry will finish his HS career at STM since his parent's stress academics. If he keeps putting up stupid numbers for the next 3 years, colleges will find him and offer, especially if he has solid grades and is a National Honor Society kid.

Back around 1983-84 when I was @ STM, one of my good friends was Harlan "Boo" Davis who I played football with at Delta Playground. Harlan went to East Jefferson and was a track star who also played football & basketball. My dad tried to get Harlan into STM, but unfortunately Boo did not pass the entrance exam. The STM academic advisors pretty much agreed that Harlan would struggle in the classroom, and it wouldn't be fair to him. Also at the time, STM did not have any black students. From a psychological perspective, another issue was how a kid who grew up near Bunch Village would acclimate to the wealthy lifestyle of the STM student population. Harlan graduated from EJ and ended up signing with Tennessee on a track scholarship (10.1 - 100M). He also played football, but sparingly.

Who was the last 5* basketball player out of New Orleans? Randy Livingston?

Nola ball has been down but not that down

Randy has like 4-5 D1 guys on the team. Prob the #1 player in the state in the 23’ & 24’ class.

Chris Lockett has Baylor & Kansas in his top 5.

That’s a Five star offer list

How did this kid get away from Curtis or Rummel?

Because he never played football before. He played soccer and they got him to play football.

JT Curtis has been at his games. He's not leaving STM.

Anything is possible. If he & his parents don’t want to leave that’s their choice and kudos to them.

But if you really believe Aug/Curtis/whoever won’t shoot their shot then good luck.

Greg Monroe in 2008 ?? He's been in the NBA for 12 years, since 2010.

There was crazy hype about Thon Maker in 2012 when he played at Country Day for 1 year. Obviously he wasn't from NOLA as he moved on to Virginia and was drafted right out of HS.
