Jay Johnson is the best recruiter LSU has ever had in any sport

Even including Nick Saban. Other recruiters on campus should learn from him.

Do you think maybe the status and prestige of the LSU baseball program as compared to others helps out?

Sure if we are talking about Skip Bertman, but manieri couldn’t do what Jay has done

And just think, you wanted to fire him at points the last two seasons! Clueless!

You’re a liar, I believe in Jay, actually more than any other LSU coach including Mulkey and Kelly

I'm inclined to agree with the OP but would note that college baseball recruiting now is more complex than the paradigm Nick recruited in.
In baseball now, there is a) conventional recruiting, b) portal recruiting, and c) recruiting against the MLB draft (a little different in baseball).
To really compare, one would have to normalize those against the previous CFB conventional recruiting model.
Finally, in defense of CPM. He will go down as the most under-appreciated coach in LSU history. Not only did he win natty #6 in baseball, we were a national seed for six straight seasons ('12-'17 - something only Stanford matched ('99-'04 I think)), and willed a really nice core of players to his successor (Dylan, Tre, Gavin, Beloso, Thompson, Milazzo, Trav and a pitcher to be named later - haha).

That has yet to be proven. Much too early to say that.

Jay has been here three years and two offseasons. In his three recruiting classes, LSU has had the highest ranked player in school history make it to campus. In his three portal offseasons, he's brought in the #1 portal class twice, including one with two of the best players in school history, and then a top 10 class that was only ranked 10 because it had 6 players, two of which were all conference/all americans.
It's definitely not "much too early" to say he's the best recruiter LSU has ever had.
Wade has to be up there just because of what LSU basketball was when he took over. Miles was great, but he walked into a machine and just kept it running. Orgeron was good at getting highly ranked classes, but couldn't actually put together a class to save his life. Kelly seems to be a very, very good recruiter. Mulkey is Mulkey. None of them have been able to do what Jay has from a recruiting standpoint though.

This is why I dont think we'll lose him to another school... regardless of pay (yet).
LSU almost recruits itself and has an extremely loyal fan base (outside of doomers on tRant). CJJ is young and can capitalize on this and make himself a legend if he sticks around. The bag will come with championships.
I personally think CJJ is the savviest coach we've had since Bertman.

He’s no better than Les.

lol no. When you’re one of a few with resources in college baseball, it shouldn’t be rocket science in the present landscape with NIL.
How many great high school players has Jay evaluated and developed at LSU? That will be his real measure. Taking Lipsey’s checkbook and buying turnkey players out of the Portal is basically like being the NY Yankees.

I’m good with being the Yankees.

Didn’t you want him fired?

We will know soon. He hasn’t had much opportunity to do anything more than supplement the classes that were already in place to this point bc recruiting in college baseball had been done 3-4 years in advance to a large degree. So unless you wanted him to gut what was there and sign whatever was left, it’s hard to assess that imo.
Now once he’s been here another year or two we can start looking at that more and even then the landscape has changed so much that you won’t see many developmental guys sticking around a program like LSU. We can’t wait 3 years for a player to figure it out while losing games as a result of that development phase.
It’s more likely you see more portal and juco kids, building it one year at a time. That’s not Jay’s fault, that’s the landscape of major college baseball now.
I know you won’t acknowledge any of those realities bc it’s clear you simply don’t like the guy based on your post history but it would help people take you seriously if you at least understood some of the nuances of college baseball in 2024.
Or is it just your goal to come off like a troll?
