tiger20 thinks Collis Temple was better than Shan Foster because he started on a Final 4 team. I cant believe she says that year after year.

Yeah, that team with Big Baby and Tyrus and Tasmin and Darrell Mitchell had no talent at all. The fifth guy ended up a pro player too (Garrett Temple). Imagine what that team might have looked like if Brady hadn't run Kentrell Gransberry off after the first exhibition game. He was only an All-Big East guy at USF for two years. Brady didn't leave Trent with much talent either. Only three NBA players and a guy who scores 18 a game in the D-League.
I have both supported and hated TJ (support because he is our coach and has a nice history, hate because of talks with former players (both transfers and grads) who aren't fond of him). However, the void of talent in the state the past 3-4 years has been beyond evident. Notice all these great players at LSU in this thread. They are all from the state of Louisiana. Very rarely does LSU get a great out of state player (Anthony Randolph was solid but everyone knew he was one and done and not really great in that one year). If TJ can keep his job this year (and only really lose role players (albeit good ones in Bass, White, Storm), he'll be set for the next 6-10 in the state. The talent is back, win 20 games somehow this year and LSU could be a common theme in final fours. The talent is that good.
Note: This thread is about Jarrell Martin who is an extremely good kid and an amazing athlete with growing basketball skills. LSU needs to lock him up as soon as he wants to. I see him everywhere (at the Scotlandville vs. St. Aug game, LSU games, etc.) Kid Loves basketball and works his tail off. Support him, Gathers, MM (signed), and other in state guys to lead LSU back to where we belong.

Granger slipped by everyone, you can't blame LSU for ignoring him, no one saw him as a future NBA player

Same old crap by some who can't post a positive comment about Trent without resorting to negative revisionist history about Brady. Interesting that no one including you refuted what I posted. You chose to resort to personal attacks instead.
I'd refute what you post all day long but it's like talking to a brick wall. I've argued with your John Brady loving arse for years and all you ever do is throw out "draconian sanctions". You spew more shite on this board and it disgusts me. It disgusts me because I care about LSU basketball and all you care about is John Brady. If Brady could coach and make in-game adjustments, we wouldn't have a Sweet Sixteen Wisconsin loss on our resume but another Final Four birth. We wouldn't have lost to UAB or Purdue. We wouldn't have gotten the doors blown off of us by UCLA. GTFO

It never occurred to you that Brady inherited a moribund program under NCAA invstigation while under a stretch of 6 straight losing seasons and was able to take them to the Sweet 16. They lost to an esperienced physical team in a game in which the officials allowed them to play a physical game.]

That is not what I said. The three scholarships used in 2004 were awarded to three players who started on a Fianl four team. If they had signed Shon foster instead of Garret Temple then LSU would not have gone to the Final Four , nor would tehy have won two SEC titles. Did Vandy even make the Final Four of the SEC tournament with Foster?

My previous arguments (months and years prior to this one) have been backed by facts which you can't dispute so you claim "draconian sanctions" and "final four" as your evidence of last resort.

I don't know how many times I have to fricking tell you. I attended open practices at the beginning of Brady's tenure. I was his biggest fan (I also happened to be at the game where he beat DB when he was at Samford). I also interviewed the man when he was coach at LSU and prior to Stromile Swift where he stated that the honeymoon would be over soon if he couldn't land a guy like Swift. Swift came and that team was as talented as any in that tourney and was not beaten by "experience" and "refs". They were beaten by John Brady getting completely outcoached.

You're damn right I'm going to be critical. You were satisfied with the result of that game? That is why you disgust me. You care so little for the area that means the most. Imagine if Nick Saban would have said "I'm just glad we get to play in the SEC Championship game against Georgia." It's not about acheiving what is acceptable. It's about acheiving what you should with the talent you have. It's the same reason to be critical of Dale Brown for not taking CJ, Shaq, Roberts, Mo, Vernel, and co. to a FF or beyond. You can be happy with that appearance, but I saw us get outclassed by a team that was on the same level as us. And by outclassed I mean blown the frick out.

Don't call me "sir". You don't understand the meaning of respect, so please don't throw that out. You think respect is a thing bestowed upon an individual for things unearned.

I'll give it to Lazare, dude worked his tail off and has improved every year. He is in camp with the Indiana Pacers right now. Who would have thought that?

Am I correct in understanding a guy in this thread feels since we have 5 open spots they must be filled this year? Maybe I am the only one, but we should only sign three this year and roll 5 over to next year when there is even more in state talent to offer.

Lazare was DEFINITELY a better player than Neltner FWIW IMO NBA

Leaving spots open is stupid.
If there is a player you want to recruit who's better than what you have on your team, then you MAKE ROOM. What do you think Miles does every year?
For the life of me I don't understand how people come to the conclusion that attempting to stockpile talent and build depth is the wrong way to build a program. Show me a Top 10 program not interested in a full roster, and I'll show you an anomaly.

You can not compare basketball to football recruiting you always have 25 spots and with 85 scholarships easier to run off players you don't want. Next years LA class is better than this one why wouldn't you hold those spots for them.
Why settle on guys you really don't want late when you can parlay a decent year this year into better recruiting in 2013?

UNC did not sign anyone in 2007 so they could say scholly's for the 2008 & 2009 class

Sure you can.
And don't even try to tell me there aren't players on this roster who could be moved. I don't want to name names because that's highly impolite, but we have a good number of people who can't play at a high level and everybody knows it.
And who says LSU has to settle on guys they really don't want? That's why you scout and recruit aggressively - so that you can get in the picture for guys you really do want. But that's a major gripe many of us have with Johnson in the first place. He needs a talent infusion NOW. He doesn't have enough top-quality players to get away with only carrying 10 or 11 on the roster.
And with this being his fourth year we damn sure shouldn't have to wait any longer for him to produce the program we're paying him for. Not choosing to load his roster and then giving the excuse of "wait til next year" doesn't cut it. Sorry. Next year is Year Five. He should have a finished product to show us. I'm not interested in "we're going to play short-handed, because you won't believe how good we'll be in Year Six."

Can we let this year play out before we make such definitive statements?
Posted on 12/21/11 at 7:09 pm to macaoidh
Yeah man, we sure as hell are having a problem with the lack of talent we have this year
