re: Trent Johnson has had 4 Straters transfer

I never said we should. Brady's shelf life at LSU had expired and it was in the best interest of all to make a change.

Making a point. One more fallacy of how things would be so much better when Brady was gone.'Yep,
The PMAC will be filled with fans, no more attrition, coach who will reach out to and not alienate fans.
Check, check, and check.

Still can't move on from Brady.
And btw, there were far better players who transferred under that guy
No just find it interesting at how much vitriol was directed at Brady even four years after he was replaced and nothing but crickets when FOURstarters transfer under Johnson.
By the way who is "that guy"? Yes, better players transferred under Johnson and they were starters. Brady lost benchwarmers.
He told Trent during the season he was contemplating a transfer. Even if you didn't count Turner Johnon has had 3 other starters leave.
Thanks, S. good one
Trent Johnson has had 4 Straters transfer

Ralston Turner joins Matt Derenbecker,Aaron Dotson, and Bo Spencer in leaving the LSU program even when starting. To think of all the barbs thrown at his predecessor because ninth, tenth,111th and 12th players on the roster elected to leave for at least some playing time.

LSU would have a STOUT front line with Hamilton, JOB and Oriakhi. Seriously would kill on the boards. Just get some guard play and LSU will surely be dancing
Malcolm White had better stats than Oriakhi before he transferred to LSU.

Great point. I wish I had thought of that.

Please post the reasons you believe John Brady would be a better hire than any other coach available to Mississippi State.

Yes. You start criticizing as it it's a fait accompli. I'm just speculating and not assuming it's a done deal
As was I.
The bigger point is for all the heat Brady got for players leaving he never had one starter transfer in his entire tenure. Regis Koundjia and Magnum Rolle and possibly Ross Neltner are the only players who were significant contributors and left.

None of those I listed has left yet, so don't jump the gun
You predict two players, both starters will leave the program when no one has even made such an announcement and you tell me not to jump the gun. WOW!

I predict at least two underclass regular players will leave the team for various reasons before next season, such as for grades or just plain give up.
Most likely candidates, IMO, are JOBIII, Ralston Turner and/or Andre Stringer.
Wow, tht would mean four starters leaving the program in two years. YetBrady was criticized for third teamers leaving the program. My how our standards have changed.

Before you jump on the Bruce Pearl bandwagon check his NCAA tournament record against opponents from major conferences. You might be surrprised.
re: Brandon Bergeron.. 2013 Anybody seen this kid? Link

He resembles an LSU QB who wore #13. You might remember him: Hodson.
quote:
Out of this list of players the only one's Trent is missing is Derenbecker & Dotson because of family & personal reason
So when Brady had attrition it was because he ran them off, but you excuse Johnson with some BS reasons. Iknow Dotson said he was leaving to be closer to home because hi smother was ill. He transferred to Utah, not exactly "close" to home. Derenbecker's situation is strange, who knows. Both of those were starters as was Bo Spencer. how many starters transferred under Brady? I will conced Brady didn't do the best job of keeping players who were not in his top 8 rotations but no starters ever transferred.
Terrence Henry is a good player, but again his stats are almost identical to Storm Warren so how can blame Brady for making a bad choice. Points are points regardless of whether they are from the 3 or 4 position.
For the record I belive Brady recruited Henry also, but he chose Ole Miss. It happens, but I guarantee LSU signed about 90% of teh playrs they wanted from Louisiana outside of the New Orleans metropolitan area.
Johnson has had three full recruiting classes and a late spring to correct any real or perceived deficiencies in Brady's recruiting. Trent Johnosn is teh coach and the program is his responsibility and it's time to quit blaming Brady.
Johnson did not have near the hurdles to overcome that Brady did when he inherited a program under NCAA investigation and impending draconian sanctions.

Also, remember us jumping out to a 5-0 lead against Michigan State behind Rick Mattick, who they couldn't stop inside. Then we got away from him and he got in foul trouble
Rick Mattick quit the team at the end of the 1979 regular season and never participated in the NCAA tournament.
quote:
Brady taking Delwan Grahman is stead of Terrence Henry has killed us for 4 years
Sorry, but this is just one more dumb shot at Brady that fails. He actually signed Storm Warren over Terrence Henry. Warren got the better of it today. Over their careers Storm averaged 7.4 PPG and 5.0 rebounds with a 48%FG pct. Henry averaged 7.9 PPG with a 4.5 rebound average while shooting 47%.
please explain what makes you believe Terrence Henry would have had a more positive impact on the LSU program than Storm Warren.
Graham was a top 100 recruit known for his rebounding and defense so in reality Brady did well by recruiting both Warren and Graham. Maybe ahenry just did not want to compete for playing time with Taz, Anthlny Randolph, Chris Johnosn, Storm, Quinton Thornton, etc.
I know Randolph declared for teh draft after the season but at the time of the signings it was not known what he was going to do.
Trent Johnson is responsible for the performance of this team good or bad and has had ample time to correct any recruiting mistakes Brady made. Mybe if he had not "run off" Matt Derenbecker a Aaron Dotson, Jmison Morgan Dennis Harris, Delwan Grahamn and Bo Spencer the program might have had more success.

Scales was something else. He was 6'9" with offensive skills. He could grab the top of the backboard. Too bad he was a little too much of a head case. He was one of the most talented players to play at LSU. I try to imagine a team of Maravich, Scales, Shaq and a bunch of defensive stoppers and stiffs. That team could win it all now.
Sid Crocker's introduction of Scales was electrifying and would amp the raucous crowd into a total frenzy - DEWAAAAAAAAYYYYYNNE THE ASTRONAAAAAAAAUAGGGHHGTTTT SCAAAAAAAAALESSSS

If you want to stick with your two dimensional thinking, fine. But the 1979-80 team was a better team than 80-81.
Why? ...Scales, Scales, Scales.
That guy was a holy terror. If he had been with the team for the 1980 NCAA tournament, we would have won it all. If he had stayed for his senior season, LSU would have been mind-blowing in 80-81.
Not sure where you are getting your revisionist history but Scales was suspended during the 1979 NCAA tournament and did not play vs Michigan State. He was in the lineup when the Tigers lost to Darrel Griffith and Louisville.
Rumor has it that Macklin was freaked playing his hometown school and his buddy Darrel Griffith whom he had never beaten which caused a confrontation in the dressing room with Scales prior to the game. Don't know if valid but very possible. Astronaut had gone off in teh 1980 SEC tourney a couple weeks before and carried Tigers to their only SEC tourney crown.

I don't agree with your views on John Brady but I have to say that you have a steel trap memory when it comes to LSU hoops
Brady’s shelf life at LSU had expired and it was in the best interest of all for parting ways. However, he has gotten much more criticism for things that did not go right and little credit for the accomplishments during his tenure. No matter how good a particular season was it seems for many it all comes back to that last loss defining the season, whether it be UAB in the first round or UCLA in the Final Four. A lot of good things happened to get them to those points.
quote:
brady ball, much like trent ball, in the halfcourt, was worse than watching paint dry. it was like watching paint peel after it dries. we weren't great defensively in that half either.
That may have been true at times but not for the prior month before the Purdue game. So what strategy should have been employed different from what had been so successful down the stretch.
quote:
the uab game was worse especially when you consider we were familiar with their style
The UAB loss was the perfect storm. UAB had completed their season a week earlier and were rested. LSU had played three games in the SEC tourney including an emotional OT loss in the final seconds to Kentucky. LSU returned from Atlanta on Sunday after the SEC tourney then headed out to Idaho on Tuesday and had to play Thursday.
The game was played in a high altitude location. UAB regularly played about 13 players in a fast paced pressing defense, LSU used about 8 regularly. Had the game been played in the South at a lower altitude or maybe even one day later LSU likely wins. They easily beat almost the same UAB team the year before in the Sugar Bowl classic.
