I mean it does make sense to just wait til the playoff teams lose or the season is over

I am sure there will be guys available and from the best teams in college football. I definitely think we need two more safety’s and maybe another OL in the portal. I admit and everyone will probably remind me but acting like the South Florida safety is a most is ridiculous. Lord knows these guys on teams in the playoff that haven’t gotten much playing time or they are just looking for a new start will be available. Kelly has hit a home run on his current portal signing but I am sure they have been unofficially notified of guys looking to move after this season ends. I got no problem waiting on the last few spots.

I would think that anyone who is looking to explore their options is probably making that known through back channel sources. But, who knows? If there are greasy agents involved, they may be advising their clients to wait and let the demand increase so that they can maximize their worth. Seems like there were a lot of good not great DT's asking for big $ last year. Would that be late in the early window or would it be in the spring window? I expect more gamesmanship now that certain patterns have been established.

A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. We learned from not taking Sayin to wait on Underwood that you don't pass up good players for someone you may or may not get in the future. You always take the best available. On top of that, there are some suspect teams in the CFP. Do you really think LSU is waiting on Indiana and Boise to finish their season? You could potentially lose some good players because you were waiting for the big fish.

He's not a must, but getting a safety or two is and when you can get one that's probably not asking for $1M+ and has a brother who has been an All-Pro safety in the NFL, then it would be nice to get that guy on the team.

What you don't know is we might actually have that bird in hand. If you think guys on those playoff teams that plan to enter don't have an idea of their next school with a deal in hand by know you are wrong. Tampering is real and it happens everywhere. It sucks but it's the truth. While I wish no one did it, I'd rather not be the only ones not doing it

It's not "in hand" until signed and we know that no one playing on a playoff team has signed anywhere other than the team they currently play for.

We got burned bad this recruiting season thinking we had one in hand. Never again. If a backup from a playoff team wants to come over, great, but we shouldn't wait for them because 18-22 year olds change their mind...especially when six figures are getting thrown around.

The guys on those teams who aren't playing very much now aren't playing very much for a reason. If you are looking to add immediate impact players, then guys with a history of production is who LSU should be adding. Go back and look through LSU's transfer history since 2022. By and large the impact transfers where guys who had a history of production prior to LSU. Sure, there are the Aaron Anderson's (who didn't do anything at Alabama) and Omar Speights (who had a ton of production at OSU) who defy that general premise, but if you need impact players now, getting guys who clearly couldn't provide that impact on their current teams is not a great bet.

You have to take the birds in hand that are definite takes and adress needs, but also keep some powder dry for future entrants/portal periods.

If I had to guess most guys jumping off playoffs teams either didn’t play much or if they had good stats then they are looking for a serious pay day we probably don’t want to pay.

There’s going to be a good bit of players looking for the money grab after the playoffs. I’m sure Kelly and Lane are just foaming at the mouth to see who they can get their hands on at this point.

I disagree. I suspect there are numerous 2nd teamers at a lot of positions that are playing behind youngish all conference/all american level players and just aren't getting the playing time they want going forward. They very well might be better than we presently have even though they haven't had much opportunity to play and have less future than they want at the school they are at. Top schools have seriously good backups, and that is where I hope LSU can buy / convince them they will be starters at LSU and get paid to do so.

I agree with you that bird in the hand is better than two in the bush…

However, two fists in the bush can make for an interesting evening…

I know, i’m gonna burn…

But recruiting is not pretty and is a full contact sport…

Sayin reached out to LSU last year after after Saban retired and we told him we're good. We were all in on Bryce Underwood. I believe we finished second or third in his original recruitment
